HOMAGE TO 2019 I bought this print exiting through the gift shop of the Cleveland Museum of Art (wish I knew the artist’s identity, it only says M + S at the bottom???) Anyway as you can see in my imagination it’s a rendering of me and my neuroses of 2019! This is me... ... and the grasping hangers-on are representations (accurate) of my stories, and this year all nine of these fuckers were ceaselessly picking and pecking at me! LAST NIGHT I DREAMT (and I blame this on looking at news headlines just before going to bed) that I was in a grand assembly hall (which happened to resemble my Catholic grade school's [St. Margaret Mary, South Euclid, Ohio] dimly-lit gymnasium). Around the inner periphery of the hall, silent, solemn, covid-masked women were voting in private stalls. In the center of the hall, illuminated by the hall’s clerestory windows, there was a three-tiered table (not to say three-...tiered altar) on which Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche had arranged various objects according to the four directions of space: in the eastern corner with a blue scarf tied around it was a vase of pure water that somehow symbolized purification from strife; in the south a crown with a yellow scarf was symbolizing equanimity and victory over selfishness; in the west a scepter with a red scarf symbolized freedom from desire and the emergence of compassion; in the north a bell tied with a green scarf symbolized overcoming envy; and in the center of the table a bell and a scepter tied together with a white scarf symbolized overcoming confusion and ignorance. On the top-most tier of the table I noticed a small, delicate piece of ancient parchment with gold script signed by Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche himself that read, ‘The darkness of the barbarians sinks deeper and deeper into the heart of the country. She who would light a torch must do so from within herself.
