California Institute of the Arts announces the launch of the Charles Gaines Faculty Chair created by the generosity of philanthropist Eileen Harris Norton. This transformative gift provides much-needed support to Black and underrepresented faculty in the School of Art, and pays tribute to the enormous impact #CalArts School of Art faculty and acclaimed artist Charles Gaines has had on students. During his three decades at the Institute, he has mentored such acclaimed Black artists as Mark Bradford, Rodney McMillan, Lauren Halsey, Edgar Arceneaux, and Henry Taylor, among others.
