Countdown Begins for Illegal Fireworks Enforcement. Both the Guadalupe Police and Fire Department are again strongly urging the public to follow the "No Illegal Fireworks, $1,000 Fine" policy in force. THE CITY OF GUADALUPE HAS A ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY FOR ILLEGAL FIREWORKS... GUADALUPE POLICE HAS FORMULATED AN OPERATIONS PLAN FOR ILLEGAL FIREWORK SUPPRESSION BEGINNING THIS WEEK AND CONTINUING THROUGH JULY. THE OPERATION WILL FOCUS ON PUBLIC EDUCATION, AND THE SAFETY OF CITIZENS, VISITORS, AND PROPERTY FROM USE OF ILLEGAL FIREWORKS. VIOLATIONS WILL BE ENFORCED. This year the City has adopted a Zero Tolerance Policy for illegal Fireworks and will be strictly enforcing it. Fines for violations are $1,000 Extra officers will be on duty and enforcement will be extreme. There will be specific illegal firework patrol details and several officers will be in unmarked cars. Anonymous tip lines have been set up to report illegal fireworks position and use. Photos can also be uploaded by reporting parties. The Guadalupe Police Department will deploy DRONES to monitor places open to the public for fire safety hazards and gather data which is expected to result in video evidence of illegal firework possession and use. These drones will be used for enforcement. Keeping illegal fireworks out of the city doesn’t mean taking the fun out of the Fourth of July-it’s adding safety. Violators to the City’s Municipal Code on illegal fireworks can receive a $1,000 citation for possessing illegal fireworks, or even misusing or tampering with legal ones. WARNING: Tickets will be issued ANYTIME someone is caught using illegal fireworks, not just on July 4th. Guadalupe police officers and firefighters will be looking out for illegal fireworks during the July 4th holiday. The patrols will focus on high-activity illegal fireworks areas but will be present throughout the City. Only fireworks certified as safe and sane by the State Fire Marshal’s Office are allowed for sale and use in approved areas. By California State law, safe and sane fireworks may only be sold from a free standing fireworks booth. CARLOS LIMON HONORED AS POLICE OFFICER OF THE YEAR The Santa Maria Elk's hosted the 47th Annual Law Enforcement Appreciation Dinner last week. Police Sergeant Carlos Limon was the recipient of the prestigious award from Guadalupe. The designee is selected by a vote of the peers within each North County Agency. An fantastic Santa Maria style dinner was provided by the Elks followed by the presentation ceremony. In addition to the award plaque, each recipient received addit...ional recognition from the various local governments, state representative and well as Congress. Congratulation to Sergeant Carlos Limon and each of the local agency award recipients.

Vehicle Accident At 08:20 Guadalupe E-1 and Santa Barbara county E-21 responded for a report of a vehicle accident in the area of Siman Rd and 11th. On arrival..., crews found a single vehicle on its roof. The driver had self-extricated and escaped with only minor injuries. The vehicle was traveling north on Simas Rd when the driver lost control rolling the vehicle multiple time and striking a brick wall before coming to a stop on its roof. The driver was wearing his seatbelt. The cause is still under investigation, but speed is believed to be a factor. #GFD #GPD #GFA #CityofGuadalupe

Officer Honored for DUI Arrests Officer Reyes was honored today by the Mothers Against Drunk Driving for his enforcement efforts. Reyes was credited with the most arrests for driving under the influence in the City of Guadalupe. He was presented with a plaque during a ceremony today in Camarillo. We appreciate the efforts of Officer Reyes in keeping our streets safe.

Traffic Accident with Injuries A man lost control of a pickup truck this afternoon and struck a power pole on Pt. Sal Road west of Highway 1. Members of the Guadalupe Police Department, Guadalupe Fire Department, California Highway Patrol, AMR Paramedics and Santa Barbara County Fire Department responded. The driver experienced moderate injuries to his head and face and was transported to a local hospital. PGE was also dispatched to repair broken cross members on the overhead power line. An investigation into the cause of the accident is being coonducted by the California Highway Patrol.

SPECIAL OLYMPICS TORCH RUN The Special Olympics torch relay traveled from Guadalupe to Santa Maria today. A team from the Guadalupe Police Department, Guadalupe Fire Department and the Santa Barbara County Probation Department covered this leg of the relay which raises funds for the Special Olymics.
