Happy Easter! Wait...that's not a bunny! It's a bilby! In Australia, they have the Easter Bilby. Bilbies are a marsupial native to Australia that are listed as a vulnerable species. They are threatened by habitat loss, feral cats, and fire. They are important to keeping the Australian ecosystem going; they are avid diggers, and their burrows are utilized by many other species when they are done using them. Additionally, their digging helps turn over a lot of soil, allowing fo...r seed germination among other useful things! Last but not least, here's our President, Andrea! (and her dog, Piggie!) Andrea is a primate keeper at the zoo and especially loves working with the great apes. Outside of work she loves spending time with her partner, Marc and their rescue bully, Piggie. She's looking forward to more professional development for members, and sharing our knowledge with each other! We’re going to start up Member Symposiums where we share training/enrichment successes, virtual zoo tours, ...and presenting on our favorite conservation organizations. Meet our new Vice President, Daniel! Daniel is currently studying Biology at Sacramento City College, prior to transferring to a four-year university. He plans on becoming a zookeeper, and from there a zoo director. As a Ride Operator at the Sacramento Zoo, he takes every opportunity to observe and gain better knowledge of the operations required to run a good zoological establishment.
