Over the last 17 hours we have been in red flag warning conditions. High winds and low humidities were experienced across the entire county. When these conditions are present, Sonoma County will put extra crews in place in addition to normal crews to ensure any new fire have as many resources as possible as quickly as possible. During this particular event, Graton Engine 8463 was staffed by Captain Ian Muskar, Firefighter Kyle Bartlett, Firefighter Jenna Dunbar and Firefighter Sam Ballenger (pictured below). We are glad to report no major fires occurred during the weather event.

The Graton Firefighters Association has begun accepting donations for its annual Holiday Toy Drive. Donations of new, packaged toys can be dropped off at the following locations: - Andy’s Produce - Husary’s 76 gas station - Bridgeway Gas Station... - Exchange Bank in Sebastopol - Graton Post Office - Oak Grove Elementary School In order to prevent the spread of Covid-19 and ensure the safety of our community, we will pick up toys on December 18. The toys will then be placed into a locked room for several days before being wiped down with sterile wipes. Thank you for your support.

A Red Flag Warning has been issued for the entire county of Sonoma from 11 P.M tonight until 11 A.M tomorrow as well as a wind advisory from 10 P.M tonight until 4 P.M tomorrow. High winds and lowering humidities will cause any fires that start to grow rapidly. Although the weather has changed considerably lately, we would like to remind everyone to still practice fire safety. Graton Fire will be fully staffed as always and have additional crews on duty along with many other agencies in the county. We are always here if you need us.

As mentioned In a previous post to our page, CAL FIRE recently lifted the burning suspension with fire danger having decreased significantly. Property owners can now use fire as a way of getting rid of excess vegetation. With burning becoming more and more frequent, residents can expect to see smoke from these burns. While we understand this can be alarming, we recommend using the application called Pulsepoint. This will allow you to see the location of burns near you as well as determine if there is an actual fire. Below are pictures of what the Pulsepoint application looks like and what the smoke a burn pile produces looks like. We hope this helps ease some concerns!

Thank you to Williams Sonoma for donating turkeys this year through the Volunteer Fire Foundation to help feed our firefighters. Thanks to them, our on-duty crew was able to have a Thanksgiving dinner at the fire station with this beautiful turkey. In addition, 14 of our volunteers were able to enjoy their turkeys at home with their families. Happy Thanksgiving to all the families at home during this challenging year!
