Lower Blood Pressure, Lower Risk for Alzheimer Disease Alzheimer disease is the most common cause of dementia and is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States. Recently a new study named SPRINK MIND actually showed by lowering blood pressure from high normal of about 140/90 to low normal about 120/80 for 3 years, and follow those patients for a few years, it showed the incidence of Mild Cognitive Impairment ( beginning stage of Alzheimer disease) was lowered by 1...9%. Counting all-cause of dementia, there was a deduction of 17%. This study did not specify what medication the patient had to use as long as it did the job. Most the medications patients used were generics and not expensive so everyone with high blood pressure could be lowering their risks for Alzheimer disease by aiming for the lower end of normal providing not much side effect occurs. Alzheimer disease is a very devastating disease. Anyone who lives long enough will most likely encounters it in this era of high tech environment which keep people live longer and longer. By keeping people's blood pressure lower, which is not very difficult to do, hopefully we will able to keep dementia away from us.
