While my son works as ER doctor at MLK and UCLA his amazing wife @Sarabesharati has been working very hard to collect donations for masks and other hospital essentials from celebrities such as Ice Cube and Hagley and different organizations, plus arranging for food delivery from HOK restaurant In Irvine to those hospitals. That is pretty incredible, and I am so proud of both of them!

#GivingTuesday Story Fifteen years ago, I started a food drive the weekend before Thanksgiving, to benefit South Orange County Outreach. Some years I was astonished by peoples' generosity, and other years, I did not receive as much as I would have liked to. There have been many reasons that have kept me collecting donations over the years, like those whose generosity abounds with the 10-20 bags of food they leave outside their door for donation, or those who are sincerely gra...teful to receive a donation when times were tough and they needed help. A particular highlight was a few years ago, when I was dropping off some extra bags of food received after the food drive was over. It was late afternoon on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving as a car pulled up and a woman with her two kids got out to find the food bank had just closed. Her disappointment was palpable, now faced with the reality that she cannot make a Thanksgiving meal for her family. I walked over and handed her the bags of donations from my car, and watched as her face lit up in humble appreciation, and the kids beamed with smiles and excitement. I am grateful to all who have donated to my annual food drive for the past 15 years - your generosity and help to serve the needs of our community are the reasons I do this every year.
