How to Determine the Sex of a Rabbit It's important to know how to tell the sex of a bunny--especially if you plan on keeping more than 1 rabbit together--and you don't want any unexpected "surprises." Here's a step by step overview of basic sexing:... 1) Place rabbit in a way that allows you to keep it still while you turn it so that you can view the genitals easily and the area between the legs can be easily reached with 1 or both of your hands. If you're new, you can get someone to help you hold the rabbit steady until you feel confident enough to do it alone. 2) Expose the genitalia by gently brushing fur aside with your fingers and part the anus from the genitals. You'll want to pull the anatomy apart just enough so that the skin is taut (but NOT over stretched). Apply firm but gentle pressure resulting in a slight protrusion of the genitalia. 3) Visually examine your rabbit's organs to determine if it's a buck or doe. Here's how to tell-- Doe Vaginal opening will have a more centralized, narrow, longer slit-like shape leading towards the anus. (Think "taco.") Anus will be closer to the vagina. Buck A junior rabbit penis will have more of a tube-like shape with a circlular opening at the tip. (Think "burrito" or "donut.") The tube will be more closed off in appearance than a doe. Adult bucks can have longer bullet shaped penises. The distance between the penis and anus is wider than that of a doe. In young bucks, there's usually an area on either side of the penis with more sparse hair growth where the testicles will eventually descend. Most senior bucks will have visible kidney shaped sacs containing the testes. However, it is possible for a buck to suck his testicles up into the body with no evidence of a scrotum whatsoever. Terms: Doe - A female rabbit. Buck - Male rabbit. Anus - Round opening closer to the tail where feces leave the body. Testicles/testes - Reproductive organ that produces sperm cells which are housed by sacs of skin (see scrotum) on either side of the penis. Scrotum - Sacs of skin that generally contain the testes/testicles. (Some bucks do not have testes in their scrotums due to neutering, injury, or birth defect.)
Mini hoomin comforting Cupcake the #Lionhead #bunny after the big hoomin groomed her and gave her a "pedicure" (a.k.a. nail trim). Big hoomin is not very popular at this time.
With recent events, we took a break from social media to take some much needed time to rest and recoup. We're glad to be back! Here's a funny little #VelveteenLop (well actually, not so little) girl enjoying the beautiful springtime weather whilst munching on some thistle. Bon appetit!
This sweet and #adorable twitchy nosed male would really like to have a new family to #love him!
