"I arrived here [SF] after hearing Harvey speak. His message helped me stand up. He inspired me to be myself. As a senior gay man who survived since the Stonewall Riots and lost countless friends and loved ones from HIV/AIDS, I think part of this project should be honoring those missing, how far we've come from the actions they took, and never taking it for granted. It’s not a parade - it is still a march." What does Harvey Milk mean to you? Tell us here: https://www.harveymilkplaza.org/hopeandaction
Happy birthday Del Martin - may you continue to rest in power knowing that your legacy lives on. Yesterday, the Lyon-Martin House became San Francisco's first official local landmark of lesbian activism.
We've been collecting your feedback on how Harvey Milk's message inspires you, and have received so many heartwarming and meaningful responses. From reflecting on our past to building our future - cheers to queer liberation! Share your story and project feedback here: https://www.harveymilkplaza.org/hopeandaction Already took the survey? "My hope for the project is that today's younger generation may be able to sense how ground breaking that period of time was politically, [70's and 80's] the incredible energy, and the bravery that was necessary that it took to bring us all to where we are today." - gay man who used to call SF home Share your own inspiration story here: https://www.harveymilkplaza.org/hopeandaction
A special shoutout to Black lesbians today on #LesbianVisibilityDay!
Happy #LesbianVisibilityDay to all the amazing and talented lesbians out there! You are valid and loved.
"As a mother of two young girls, Harvey embodies inspiration to do great things, especially for other people... Harvey is a beacon of hope. I try to pass his message on to my kiddos." - Castro resident How does Harvey Milk inspire you? Let us know here: https://www.harveymilkplaza.org/hopeandaction
This is a big win for the community, and a brilliant example of what we can achieve when we work together toward a common goal. A great big thank you again to everyone who participated in the six community meetings held earlier. #HonorHarveyMilk
A BIG WIN for the community! SFMTA announced that the planned elevator will now include the 4th stop requested during the community meetings held in 2017-2018. Community members asked to see greater inclusivity at the site named for Harvey Milk. Their request was heard by the decision-makers at SFMTA, and now the elevator will access the bus stops at Market Street, allowing the plaza to better reflect Harvey's values! #honorharveymilk
This is a sad day for San Francisco and the Castro as we learn about the death of Harry Britt. Harry was a long time activist for LGBT rights and social justice for all. His legacy will be remembered. https://www.ebar.com//breaking:_gay_former_sf_supervisor_h
Thank you to all the Dreamers who never stopped fighting! Today was a win. We stand beside you! #hereishome

Thank you Cleve Jones for this moving piece, reminding us all of what Harvey stood for. That's what made him so unique, his unwavering commitment to social justice. Join the #FriendsofHarveyMilkPlaza as we work to honor this man and his message in the public plaza that bears his name. #HarveyMilkPlaza, #castrolgbtculturaldistrict, #socialjustice, #lgbtequality
41 years ago Dan White’s verdict of voluntary manslaughter for the killings of Mayor George Moscne and Supervisor Harvey Milk rocked the city, and especially the Castro. We will not forget and we will not forget how these two men fought for social justice. The Friends of Harvey Mulk Plaza are working to honor Harvey Milk in a way that truly honors Harvey Milk and the LGBT history that has happened at Castro & Market. #harveymilklaza #castrosf, #LGBTequality https://www.google.com//SF-s-White-Night-riots-40th-annive
Harvey's 90th Birthday is this Friday, May 22nd! HAPPY BIRTHDAY HARVEY! We're spreading hope and joy on Harvey's birthday, join us virtually as we celebrate.
During these trying times, we are urging everyone to please stay home unless you have to go out. This is serious and will get more difficult as time goes by. If you do go out, please be careful what you touch and stay 6 feet apart. Bring those bleach wipes with you or disinfectant hand gel. Wipe down everything before you touch it. Stay healthy!
Friends If Harvey Milk Plaza announce $1M State Grant! This funding will be used to finalize the design, including the inspirational elements, and take the project through city approvals! https://hoodline.com//harvey-milk-plaza-redesign-awarded-1

Happy New Year to all! The Friends of Harvey Milk Plaza are happy to dedicate one of the sparkling lights on the Bay Bridge to Harvey, who reminds us that the light of Hope will guide us, always.
A marriage proposal on Market St. under the Rainbow Flag! One day marriage proposals and weddings will be able to take place safely and grandly in the new Harvey Milk Plaza!
The U.S. Navy is honoring Harvey with a ship named after him. Navy Secretary Ray Mabus said Tuesday that Milk offered hope for millions of Americans who were being ostracized and prosecuted just for who they loved. Other ships in the class will be named after other civil and human rights leaders: Sojourner Truth, Chief Justice Earl Warren, Robert F. Kennedy, suffragist Lucy Stone and Rep. John Lewis of Georgia. #HonorHarveyMilk
