Join artist Timothy Horn for a virtual discussion of his work, process, and career. His practice unites the natural and the constructed, while exploring the area of slippage between the organic and the artificial. He has worked in a variety of media including blown glass, crystalized rock sugar, and various metals. For the past decade, Horn has been inspired by patterns of 17th-century jewelry, and 19th-century studies of natural forms such as lichen, coral, and seaweed. This talk is presented in conjunction with the Craft in America Center exhibition, Making Waves: Ocean Ecology and Craft.

It is with deep sadness that we share the news that our beloved Board Member, Carolyn Benesh, died early Wednesday morning. Carolyn was involved with Craft in America since its inception, serving as an advisor when our organization was established. This is a personal loss, a loss for Craft in America, and a loss for the entire field as we say goodbye to this true scholar and friend of craft. As founding co-editor and co-publisher of Ornament Magazine since 1974, Carolyn tra...veled extensively, both within our country and internationally, documenting the finest expressions of the jeweler’s art and investigating the arts of textiles and clothing from all levels of world cultures; from royalty to the most humble artisans. She often visited festivals, fairs or shows wearing pieces from her extensive collection. Supporting the artists by purchasing their work was a personal practice for Carolyn, which led to many delightful pieces worn with flair and purpose. We will miss her eye and her sense of adventure. She loved beauty and saw it everywhere. Carolyn was a complex person, passionate about art, life, politics and culture. She treasured thinking about craft and imagining how we might advance the field. Her strong opinions and informed advice will be missed.
