Happy Black History Month from @pennylanecenters! Each week throughout the month of February we will be celebrating Black youth who are empowering their communities, Black Non-Profits that serve LA County and our favorite Black owned local restaurants! Please help support our community partners by sharing their profiles and organizations, purchasing from Black owned businesses, and CELEBRATING BLACK HISTORY MONTH!! Today’s Featured Youth- Jackson and Julian... Jackson - Donut that roared- @donutthatroared When Jackson was 10, he was diagnosed with a benign brain tumor. One day, when he was coming out of yet another MRI scan, he saw a little boy on his way in. He looked so scared and Jackson wished there was something he could do to help. His parents looked really worried too. That's how Jackson’s children's book was born. I hope it helps lots of kids to see that if I can do it, they can too! And I hope child life specialists can use my story to help other kids the way they have helped me!- Jackson Julian Frederick - The Step Stool Chef- @stepstoolchef is a 12-year-old chef and creator of The Step Stool Chef, an initiative dedicated to empowering kids leadership skills through the culinary arts using their "kids teaching kids approach." Julian facilitates cooking classes on his platform that help other young people learn how to make dishes in a fun and relatable way. At just 12, he has already provided several offerings for those interested, including an online cooking school, a cookbook for children, and a cooking kit for kids. #BlackHistoryMonth #TheDonutThatRoared #TheStepStoolChef #Youth #PennyLaneCenters
