Employers prefer a Diploma over a GED A sluggish economy has made finding work difficult for people from all walks of life. Al-most 14 million Americans are looking for work.... Every year, roughly 750,000 high school drop-outs try to improved their educational and em-ployment prospect by taking the General Edu-cational Development test, (or GED), long con-sidered to be the equivalent of a high school diploma.
