If you've been following the horrific violence against our unhoused neighbors at Echo Park Lake, please join this peaceful vigil tonight at 5pm at Sunset/Lemoyne in Echo Park. #EchoParkRiseUp

East Side Jews 17.04.2021

CW: police violence Last night, the LAPD showed us once again who they serve as they gated off folks living in Echo Park Lake and attacked supporters of the unhoused with tear gas and batons, even breaking someone's arm. Shameful and disgusting. We'll post some accounts to follow to stay up to date. #EchoParkRiseUp

Shame on City Councilman Mitch O'Farrell and the city of Los Angeles. Persecuting our unhoused neighbors during a pandemic is barbaric. We'll post some links to organizations in the comments that are actually working to help Angelenos and not city developers.

SHABBAT TONIGHT AT 7PM A Collective, ‘Drunk History*’ style retelling of the Passover story. If you missed the group attempt at telling the Purim story you’re in luck! We’re going at it again. How much you know of the Pesach story!? Maybe you're an actual Torah scholar, maybe you watched a lot of the Rugrats Passover episode, or maybe you got kicked out of Religious School after that nasty Afikomen prank. No matter who you are it's time to "drunk history" the Pesach story ...together on Zoom. *Drinking is not required as we are likely to struggle no matter how sober. Link in bio

Repost @ktownforall Some politicians and media outlets will try to present what happened in Echo Park as a success, that they housed everyone and cleared a park for necessary repairs. They will depict images of people’s belongings strewn throughout the park as trash, but HERE IS THE REALITY.#echoparkriseup

As an extension of our Political Education offerings, East Side Jews Activist Collective presents an adapted #CountOnUS & Frontline democracy defender training for the SIJCC & ESJ community. This training, based on the social view of people power, highlights the stakes of this moment, breaks down the theory of non-cooperation, and explains WHAT YOU CAN DO. This workshop prepares individuals to take action: whether that’s day-of-election text banking, pressuring your representatives, showing up to polling places on November 3rd, or participating in a general strike with millions of others to defend democracy.

LETS CALL IT LIKE IT IS. Antisemitism. Regardless of who you voted for in 2016, regardless of why you voted that way, it is has become increasingly apparent that siding with those in power (especially those who are morally corrupt) DOES NOT MAKE US SAFE. ... Yesterday, a Jewish cemetery in Michigan was defaced with MAGA & TRUMP support, which clearly in this case translates to hate for jews. Yet the congregation's rabbi, David J. B. Krishef, says it is unknown if the vandalism was anti-Semitic. He mentioned Halloween weekend vandalism as a potential reason for this attack. Over last four years, racism and prejudice has been condoned in bold new ways - being a fascist is in. Vote against facism today. Vote for dignity today. And tomorrow? Be ready to be in the streets, on the phone, writing letters, writing checks, supporting activists and community members, standing in solidarity with others... PARTICIPATE in the fight for our freedoms, and remove your consent and participation from a society that isnt being run by and for YOU. https://www.google.com//www.nbcnews.c/news/amp/ncna1245930
