Every time I put my arms around you, I felt that I was home. {ernest hemingway} Born on March 13, 2020 while the whole world was in panic mode, we were in our own little bubble welcoming our new baby Ernest! Ernie was born at the perfect time for me because I was able to be at home more than ever. When Arthur was born, I went back to work after a month and now that he’s almost 5, I’m in disbelief at how fast time flies and you can’t get back time! I will treasure these mo...ments of Ernie’s first year and I will continue to celebrate and relive this beautiful day made possible by some super talented and sweet people! My husband is an English teacher so our kid’s names are based off of literary things. Ernest was supposed to have a terrazzo themed room but I never got around to it. Then I found this quote by Hemingway, we are all broken and that’s how light gets in And that’s how the Hemingway + Terrazzo theme came together. Funny story- I ordered terrazzo decals from Etsy and I checked up on the order status and I never pressed checkout . So for like 3 hours one night, Amy (@whiteblossomevents) showed up at my salon and we hand painted broken tiles and it took way longer than we expected (and then @whiteblossom_iris came to add more another day) but I love the way it turned out! It was kind of therapeutic if I didn’t have my child with me We set this up in the parking lot- people eating at the restaurant probably thought we were selling flowers and dessert at a pop up shop called Ernest James I can’t say thank you enough for making this event happen! After a couple full highlights sessions, the color was getting too light overall for Sunny. For this session, we added both lowlights from the roots feathered down and more highlights to give it an update . I love the subtle dimension and how it will grow out beautifully! First few sessions by Sarah and most recent session by Genie. Beautiful hair is a process and we appreciate our regular clients who trust the process to maintain their color but more so, their hair’s elasticity/strength. I had a chance to reflect on 2020 while watching the last sunset of the year go down with my husband. 2020 was a rough road with some steep incline hills to climb and fast downward crashes, but through it all, we have survived. With so many people losing loved ones or fighting an illness, I am thankful to be healthy and well. Although our salon had to close multiple times and is currently closed right now, I am very thankful for how understanding and patient our clients hav...e been. How frustrating is it that we can’t do all the normal things we have been doing for years! I am very thankful for all my friends and family, our e2beauty team and clients for the support you guys have shown in my life and business. It is truly a blessing to have you all in my life. So much to say but wrapping up 2020 by saying that I have never bonded with my family as much as I did this year and it was truly filled with a lot of quality time. A week before 2020 was over, God reveals to us our weakness by sending my husband to the ER and we find out that he has a heart condition (which I hear is common) called SVT. Through his condition, I am learning more about my husband and have been able to help him through his anxieties and fears. It has given us new goals to work on and to recognize how to live with the peace that God is with us through thick and thin. We have absolutely nothing to worry about, nothing to fear because God has captivated our fears. There is truly a time for everything and God knew that my family needed me during this crucial time and that we all needed Him. I am grateful that this was the year I had my second child because I was able to be home more and really enjoy the baby phase. But even with more time off due to lockdowns and transitions, I still felt like I was always trying to keep up and keep things together. There are many things I wish I could have done or done better, but it’s just been a different kind of tiring this past year and I was not feeling motivated or excited for the future. (It could also be sleep depriv...ation). In my dramatic moments, I would question what I was doing or if E2beauty could survive the pandemic. Even the thought of closing made me very sad- like losing a part of my heart and a friend. I am reminded though that the survival of this business has not been because of me- it’s the team that stood by me, the clients we have served, the deep story of who we are and all the prayers- I accepted these people and gifts into my life with open hands. Financially, God has provided for us in every step and that has given me faith that there is more. The doors will close when it is meant to be but for now, we are still here (although still waiting for the order to be lifted). I really have no expectations for 2021. It’s like 2020 erased all my plans So 2021, no plans- Open my eyes. Open my heart. Day-by-day. What’s been your word or thought for 2021? It’s our 3rd year offering holiday mini sessions in our salon! This year was up in the air but with life events still happening like babies born, engagements, recoveries, etc., there is still much to celebrate and be grateful for in 2020 and we hope to capture what’s most important- our loved ones Together at Home We are thinking of convenience and efficiency for our sessions. The benefit to doing our photo session is that:... -Hair and makeup can be included and it’s either 20 minutes total for touch ups or 45 minutes to 1 hour for full hair and makeup because our artists are working on the same client at the same time. -While mom is getting hair and makeup, there is a designated family waiting area and a gift box with snacks and drinks. Also, Walkable from our salon are two coffee shops @mazcafeconleche (playground across) @hiddenhousecoffee (patio area) -Studio space is enclosed so kids won’t be distracted and run away. Less time chasing kids or pets and more time taking pics or getting their attention -This year, we will have a treasure box with toys and treats displayed in front of the kids to help motivate them doesn’t work for everyone but it sure does work for the kids I know -This year our set is customizable with different colored pillows, wooden sign by @delovelydetails and two backgrounds: white sheer panels by @handmadebysarakim and a neutral wall. Past sessions we had @cclweddings @modestpeach build us backgrounds so we are still reusing that behind the panels! Bed is optional and can be repositioned if needed. Beautiful dried florals by @milieuflorals can be repositioned as well! -The photographers we have are all amazing and so easy to work with- we just have a great time together and doing these sessions have been a fun way to collaborate! @erinjsaldana @jensosa @joytheoryco @perpixelphoto This pop up will be on Oct 25, Nov 1, Nov 8, and Nov 14. This is the true re...sult of customizing the style to match the client. Some factors to consider when finding photos- look for someone with a similar skin tone and base hair color as you and for haircuts, notice face shape and neck length. If you’re going lighter, you may also notice that you might want to add more color to your face. It’s the last day of September, #nationalsuicidepreventionmonth and I struggled on how to shine a light on this very real issue, but we must share because we actually lost someone very dear to us and want to #breakthestigma in hope to help someone through Elaine’s life. Many of you already know our story or have read it on our website about the co-founder of E2beauty, Elaine, but for those who do not know, In 2017, Elaine had taken her own life. It was tragic and for some, i...t was very unexpected. I have been reading many posts on @realdepressionproject and as much as I don’t know whether my actions would have changed the situation, but I wish I knew about this site as a resource or to better understand. Biggest thing I have learned is that it is a very lonely struggle to have a mental illness and it is also hard to know how to support someone with one. During this year I have thought about Elaine a lot and I can’t help to think about how she would have been during this pandemic. It would have been extremely hard. So, I ask you to check in with your family and friends to see how they are doing. Maybe even send some snail mail or have a phone call or zoom. Or if you need a place to unwind in a safe place, come get your hair done and talk. We are not therapists, but we are here as real people to listen without judgement. Yay! Jennifer got married on Halloween! I bet she was so relieved after all the date postponements and changes! Rofyah and Ashley were so accommodating and made her wedding look flawless! I have been stirred by all that is happening. It’s hard to come up with the words because I’ve been reflecting on my life and feel broken about my privilege. I have experienced racism and my family too there is trauma from the last time this happened in 1992, but it isn’t about me right now. And I confess that I didn’t always vote- but I need to vote- it really does matter. The issue now is that the black community is hurting and it’s been for a while now... Such a silly pic but it captures our essence! Last year was such a whirlwind of events as we opened up our new salon, that I didn’t get to highlight Sarah. It takes a special person to step into the role of my new business partner. Someone who understands what E2beauty went through because she herself went through the tragedy. Someone who can say, yes let’s keep the name E2beauty even though it doesn’t include her own name because she understands the legacy. Someone wh...o gave of her time and finances in order to continue this business and open this salon. Sarah humbly serves me and my business with her amazing talents and time, but more importantly her lack of fear and great faith are the pillars of support that cause this business to stay afloat. A year into this new salon, I feel so grateful that Sarah is my business partner. Her support allows me to lead and do crazy things once in a while and if it’s too much I know she will say something. We have four more years on this lease until we reevaluate how things are going, but for now, we’re still going and growing together with amazing blessings personally in our lives and business.
