The impossible happens daily in chiropractic offices. Miracles take a little longer. ~ Dr. Thomas Whitehorne I remember watching the moon landing on a tiny Black and White TV in my grandma’s basement, 50... years ago today. A year later I was fighting for my life battling Hodgkins Lymphoma, which at that time was fatal in 19 out of 20 cases regardless of whether or not you received treatment. After 3 weeks of high energy X-Ray radiation (3000 cGy, a massive and lethal dose), I had no white blood cells left and was sent home to die. My 13th Birthday present was to be my casket and a funeral. My family took me away for a last trip together camping in the mountains. Each day out in nature, I got a little less gray and a little more pink. All I remember is literally vomiting the cancer out. Thankfully they didn’t tell me I was expected to die. I thought that all the hospital bullshit was over and I could go play Little League. I didn’t die, which would have been the easy route, and I never got to play Little League. Instead I’ve faced a lifetime of battling the side effects of the surgeries and radiation. My left shoulder girdle was paralyzed as my left long thoracic and phrenic nerves had been accidentally nicked in the biopsy, my ribcage twisted and collapsed. The fibrosis and cicatrix contracture of the pericardium and pleura began to crush my heart and lungs. My neck and shoulder musculature atrophied away. Eventually my thyroid failed and I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. 44 years of chiropractic care, healthy living and hours and hours of daily yoga and exercise, eventually reversed the paralysis and much of the damage. Specific scientific chiropractic as we practice in our office, restored my nerve and thyroid function and cured the cancer. I never did get to play baseball. I did however receive the honor of being the team chiropractor of the San Diego Padres, traveling with the team, sitting in the dugout and caring for Hall of Famers Tony Gywn and Ricky Henderson. I’ve since regained almost full function and now have excellent health and vitality. Yeah Chiropractic!
