A little hand-made thank you card from a happy patient. She even got the details of my headlight. Gestures like these always remind me to keep going even during times when I'm down in this very tough speciality of neurosurgery. It makes all the years of training and hours in the OR worthwhile so be able to make to a profound difference in a single patient's life. #neurosurgery #neurosurgeon #thankful #gratitude #thankfultuesday

Not at the front lines...but still...I worry about my colleagues who are.(neck not protected). Please stay home if you don't absolutely have to be out...we don't have the luxury of being nonessential workers. We put ourselves at risk everyday so you can don't have to.. #stayhomeforthem #covid19 #supportdoctorsandnurses

I'm not tall, but i can walk tall. Having a positive attitude and confidant demeanor and stride give you a boost of positive energy to your state of mind. It doesn't hurt to do it with the wind at your feet and sun kissing your face. Start every Monday with a confidant and positive stride to begin whatever challenge is waiting for you! You are your biggest champion... It seems we only rarely can "cure" someone as doctors. Neurosurgery is no exception. But one in while, we do a carefully thoughtout and meticulous operation on the right patient and get rewarded with miraculous results... This is an 88 year old woman with a spinal cord meningioma who presented with 6 months of progressive paraparesis. She was bed-bound for 2 months before I met her. She had a complete resection of the tumor and regained the ability walked again within a few months! Cases like her keep me going during days when I'm flighting a losing battle against brain cancer or brain hemorrhages.

Happy father's day! Thank you dad for all you did and all you are so I can be who I am today... You can blame him for all my goodness and I've got no excuses for all my faults. Did you call or visit your father today? Even if you can't today, do it tomorrow, or next weekend, he will still appreciate it. #fathersday #delawarewatergap #throwbacksummer2018 #familytime

Putting a 24mm long pedicle screw in a unstable fracture of the 2nd cervical vertebrae as I'm gently "finger tightening" the screw. Cervical spine injury can cause devastating spinal cord injury or disabling pain. Most fractures can heal with collar immobilization but sometimes careful surgical instabilization and with metal implants are required #spinesurgery #c2pediclescrew #spinetrauma #neurosurgeon #seanxinneurosurgeon #ilovemyjob #finesse #percision

Sometimes I have to switch from the finessed and gentle touch needed to perform microsurgery of the delicate brain to using drills, chisels, and screws to decompress and stabilize a very hard spine. I always found the juxtaposition of these very divergent type of surgeries neurosurgeons do interesting and bit mind boggling...to be delicate and finessed at times and others, delibrate and forceful. Here I give a talk on spine trauma and approaches at the National Skull Base Foundation Neurosymposium 2019 #NSBF #neurosymposium #spinesurgery #Seanxinneurosurgery #neurosurgery #drxinneurosurgeon #Iloveneurosurgery #MISneurosurgery

Turning the lights down low... Sometimes, I turn the light down low so I can better visualize what I operating on and improve my focus. I like to keep the OR calm, and myself composed, even when difficult moments arises from time to time #neurosurgery #brainsurgery #turnthelightsdownlow #peacefulmind #focus #californiainstituteofneuroscience #westhillsneurosurgery
