Door Of Hope Rady Campus received a large donation of 816 hand sanitizers from San Diego County District Attorney. Twenty backpacks filled with necessary hygiene supplies and clothing were also delivered. We are so grateful for this gift!
For #BlackHistoryMonth we are honoring the #EverydayHeroes who help make a difference here in San Diego. Meet Colette Mackengel! Colette came to San Diego to escape domestic violence. She was battling addiction and living in her car with her two children. She knew that wasn’t the life she wanted for herself or her children. ... With the help of The Salvation Army, Colette was able to make a full recovery and now works as a Case Manager at The Salvation Army Door Of Hope. For the past 12 years, she has had the opportunity to help other women through the same programs that made a difference in her own life.
Hoehn Motors owners Susan and Bill Hoehn donated a new 2020 Honda Odyssey to The Salvation Army Door of Hope. This gift will bless us with more opportunities to help families during their journey to self sufficiency. We are so thankful for this gift and the relationship we have with the Hoehn family.
Getting ready for Christmas Distribution at Door of Hope! Thank you to all of our donors and The Salvation Army San Diego Citadel for helping our families have Christmas! God bless!
We are so blessed and grateful to all who helped make this dream a reality. The new Rady Residence for intact families at the Door Of Hope Campus is complete! Here is a sneak peek at what blessings we will soon be able to share with families. Signage has gone up on the outside of the building, the grounds are paved and plants neatly decorate the area. Rooms come complete with brand new beds and their fittings, fully stocked kitchens including pots and dishware, cleaning supplies for laundry and countertops, and towels and toilet paper in the bathroom.... Each of the four floors have a laundry room complete with wash area and full-sized washers and dryers. The Playroom for children and families is filled with fun, educational toys and activities for kids. The Library has books ready to be enjoyed. Computers will soon be added to help children with their schoolwork and assist parents with completing online resumes. We cannot wait to expand the ways in which we can help those in our community find solutions to homelessness in San Diego! #FightForGood #endhomelessness
Last weekend we hosted a Back to School BBQ for the residents. Dedicated volunteers Ken and Gail Matson prepared hotdogs, watermelon and chips for the event in easy grab-and-go bags. RB Community Church provided school supplies including backpacks, calculators, binders, folders, paper, pencils, crayons and more to 30 families in need. Everyone observed social distancing guidelines and wore masks. Door of Hope Director Amy Vance said All in all, it was an awesome day for a BBQ even if we could not gather like our events in the past. #FightForGood #BackToSchool
