Rest peacefully and playfully dear friend. We lost Dwight Doc Strayer last Saturday, in the water, doing what he loved. Doc impacted me like a big brother would from the surfboard and bike I ride, to my morning routine of the Five Tibetans and YogaWheel, I trusted all things Doc. In the things he knew, Doc was a sage. When together, I was the Doctor, but he was the real Doc. Authentic, consistent, true. With his Doc-isms he could sum up a situation in fewer words than a twitter post. Doc’s last words to me were in the water that Saturday morning, Go, go, go! Much love and peace to his dear wife, Michelle, and to all of those who cherished this very special man. Crushing. 20/20 in 2020! Kathy was our last elective procedure patient on the Thursday of the lockdown. She has been patiently awaiting our State’s reopening of elective procedures. For the last 6 weeks, the only surgeries we have done have been for urgent/emergent cases. Finally, we are back to taking care of our important, but less urgent, patients. It is important to us to pay attention to the patient, not just the details of the disease. Healing a patient is about far more than just following an algorithm.

This is the image of a Choroidal Melanoma (the brown-green mass on the left). The patient was diagnosed with this melanoma during a routine eye exam. She came in with a rather common complaint of "hazy vision." Choroidal melanoma is the most common primary malignant intraocular tumor and the second most common type of primary malignant melanoma in the body. Treatment is essential because the tumor can enlarge, cause vision loss, and spread to other organs.

https://www.youtube.com/watch This patient had undergone successful macular hole repair and, unexpectedly, developed a dense significant cataract. While the anatomic result of the macular hole surgery appeared quite good, the final visual prognosis is always uncertain in these cases. The patient's cataract surgery is shown in this video and some tips for caring for such patients are described.
