Cut to the Chase Barber Shop 07.04.2021

Day 2. Uncle David . . . This piece right here I blew up and put on canvas from an original picture that my grandfather sent to me. No it’s not just a random picture of barbers. This has history and I’m convinced it’s a big reason why I have the gift of barbering.... ... . . . I was a weirdo (very particular) about my hair as a kid and after my barber retired and after several hack jobs at big chain barber shops, I decided to cut my own hair. I think I was 11 or 12 years old. As I grew a deeper passion for cutting my hair and my friends hair and seeing the reaction on my friends faces after giving them a good haircut (probably wasn’t that good lol) I was reminded by my mom that her uncle and great grandfather were barbers as well and both went on to own their own barbershops. The shorter guy in the middle in this picture is actually my great uncle David when he was in barber school at Moler Barber College in 1954 in San Francisco. Mind you, I don’t think I ever witnessed them cutting or even remember meeting my great uncle and great grandfather but when it’s in the blood it’s in the blood! This piece is near and dear to my heart and I love the story behind it. Can’t find that it no Hobby Lobby! See more

Day 1. Mom’s bench . . I guess I’ll kick this series of me explaining some of my favorite pieces in the barbershop with the most meaningful piece to me. .... . My parents moved to livermore in 1989 and part of growing up in this town was the beauty of the rolling hills, wine country, and beautiful places like Sycamore Grove Park. Our parents would take us to walk this trail often. My sister and I loved running around out there, climbing in the Teepee tree, and just being in the nature. I remember my mom having a love for Sycamore Grove Park. . . . My mom fought breast cancer for years. She did rounds of chemotherapy and radiation and even went into remission a couple times, but in my senior year of high school it came back and spread throughout her body and quickly took over until she lost her battle January of 2004. I remember her saying that when she died she wanted to be in a peaceful place like Sycamore Grove Park. I can’t fully remember if she was referring to her ashes being spread there or what she meant by that. But after she passed away my aunt contacted the city about getting a bench built and installed somewhere along the path in memory of her. I was just a teenager and honestly don’t remember too much of that hard time in my life but to my knowledge, I don’t think my aunt had the means to pay the amount that it would cost to get one of the benches with a plaque on it so this bench was the option that we were able to do. I’m so fortunate to have this place to visit when I feel like I want to talk with her or just sit in peace and remember her. My family and my close friends know about this bench and now all of you do too. If you are ever on the path and you see her bench (1.25 mile marker from the Holmes entrance) and want to just have a moment of silence or rest it really is so peaceful. Til we meet again mama, you will forever be honored in my heart and in my barbershop. Love you! Isaiah 41:10 See more

Creeping up on our 4 year anniversary next week and as I was waiting on my next client God laid a deep appreciation on my heart for this space that He blessed me with... . . When I first opened the shop I prayed that people would feel the presence of God. I hoped that every client, and every mom or dad waiting for their child would feel like they were walking into a home and not just an establishment. .... . . One of my favorite things about the barbershop are the unique pieces of wall art and the meaning behind them. Some pieces were gifted to me, some pieces have been hand made by local artists and clients. Can’t forget to mention one of the coolest pieces of art on the waiting room wall! Some pictures have more meaning than most of you even know. Over the next week (starting tomorrow) I want to highlight and share the stories behind some of the most special pieces in my shop. . . . It’s been a while but I wanted to thank all of our clients that continue to support the barbershop! Without you guys there is no shop! Thank you and God bless! See more
