#RCWEEK20 The #CSRC recognizes Valley Children's Healthcare for winning the RC Department Award for the Central California Region. The respiratory care department at Valley Children's Healthcare is identified as part of the interprofessional team, serving on multiple medical staff and interprofessional committees related to education, research, quality improvement, and infection prevention. They began a task force to reduce the number of unplanned extubations within t...he organization, leading to a reduction each following year. The department also conducted quality improvement research on an innovative high flow nasal cannula weaning protocol that was respiratory therapist-driven, resulting in a decrease of length of stay by one day in the hospital's acute care area. The department tracks ventilator-associated events and implements change based on discovery to improve patient care and reduce risk, leading to a VAP in 2,476 days. Great work, Valley Children's!
