After leaving Detroit to pursue a fresh start in Los Angeles, construction worker Ahmad found himself unhoused. Needing a consistent place to sleep and build his financial independence, Ahmad sought help at CRCD where staffers worked diligently to pair him with Safe Place for Youth’s Host Home Program. The consistent contact and professional interactions Ahmad had with the team at CRCD made him feel that they had his back, and gave him confidence during the pairing process. T...hrough the Host Home Program, Ahmad found a home for the next 3-6 months with his host and new friend Pat, who also worked in construction. Currently working at the LAX construction site, Ahmad is excited to for the opportunity to save money, fix his credit, and improve his financial outlook! Congratulations and Good Luck, Ahmad! #changinglives #youth #youthdevelopment #nonprofit #community #housing #homelessness #buildinghousingforhomelessyouth

Central Avenue's rich history of jazz earned it the title of 42nd Street of the West Coast! On September 4, 1931, Club Alabam opened, much to the delight of columnist Harry Levette of the famed black newspaper, the California Eagle, run by Charlotta Bass. "The dizzy white lights are dancing daringly again, lightsome, lilting, laughter is tinkling from lips curved merrily in happy faces... as the gay, many-colored gowns of women of all races flutter like so many tropic butt...erflies."
