Our first community baby shower for 2021 is coming up on 2/27 and we need your support. The need for diapers is especially great. Last year we helped get diapers and baby supply boxes to over 350 families. We need your help to provide for even more babies. The economics of child care were shaky before we even got into pandemic, Allvin said. While this will absolutely stabilize the sector, it doesn’t fix the underlying economic conditions that weaken it. For mothers to succeed, we need full child care reform.

We believe every person has agency, and no artificial barrier can stop you. We love engaging our mamas to share their gifts and are even happier when we can teach our children that they too can make an impact. Thank you for sharing this story of our mission in action, Monika Aldarondo Lugo!

Another successful drive thru baby shower in the books! These amazing volunteers distributed over $25,000 in baby boxes, diapers, toys, and even a few bicycles to mamas in our community. Thank you to everyone who has sorted clothes, donated items, purchased gifts from our amazon wishlist, and spent time packing up boxes. Every small step has helped us make a huge impact.

We so appreciate the help of these Cal State East Bay Nursing Students! They spent their afternoon helping put the finishing touches on baby boxes for tomorrow’s baby shower! 100 moms have registered, and we’re happy to be able to serve them during this trying time!

These rockstar kids finished school and then spent their afternoon completing baby boxes for 37 newborns! Thank you for reminding us to keep doing good work in service to others it’s the only way we’ll be able to get through this.

This may not look like much, but to 25 families at Markham Elementary, it looks like a bag full of supplies to make distance learning a little easier. If you want to help more students in the East Bay, message us we will give our Amazon wish list or we gladly accept a donation to purchase.

There is no denying climate change. California is on fire. Almost 2.5 million acres of land have burned there so far this year nearly 20 times what had burned at this time last year and the wildfire season is far from over.

City Creates New Emergency Rental Assistance Program for Qualifying Residential Tenants Financially Impacted by COVID-19 The City of San Leandro today announced... a new rental assistance program that will help provide relief to qualified residential tenants financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, as unanimously approved by the City Council in June 2020. The program is being funded with $451,972 in one-time Community Development Block Grant federal stimulus funds to prevent, prepare for, and respond to COVID-19 under the CARES Act approved by Congress and the President earlier this spring. It is critical that we continue to support residential renters in our city as we navigate through the unprecedented financial impacts of the pandemic, said Mayor Pauline Russo Cutter. This program will provide safety net assistance for residents and families in San Leandro. I applaud City staff for working expeditiously on finalizing this grant program." The San Leandro Emergency Rental Assistance Program will provide rental assistance payments for up to three months on behalf of qualifying San Leandro renters who have lost income due to COVID-19 and meet federal low-income requirements. For example, in 2020, a one-person renter household earning $73,100, a 2-person household earning $83,550, and a 3 person household earning $94,000 would qualify. The monthly assistance payments will be provided directly to property owners or managers on behalf of qualifying residents and will be applicable to rent due after March 16, 2020, when the Alameda County Shelter-In-Place Order took effect. Residential tenant applicants are required to submit documentation confirming proof of tenancy and financial hardship resulting from COVID-19, including but not limited to one of the following: loss of or reduction in employment or wages, increased medical or childcare costs, or loss of childcare. All documentation and rental and lease agreements are subject to verification. The program is being administered by Centro Legal de la Raza, a non-profit legal services provider. All Rental Assistance Program details, including eligibility requirements, application materials, and submittal deadlines are available on Centro Legal de la Raza’s website at: http://www.centrolegal.org/rental-assistance/ or on the City of San Leandro’s website at: www.sanleandro.org/depts/cd/housing/default.asp The online application will be available on the Centro Legal website starting Tuesday, September 8, 2020. Please contact Centro Legal or City staff for a hard copy application if you do not have access to a computer or for information on where to find a program application. The deadline to apply for the Rental Assistance Program is September 30, 2020. Hard copy applications will be accepted with postmarks up until the application deadline. Funding is limited, and applications will be prioritized based on need and severity of COVID-19 impact.
