College Democrats of SDSU

It should go without saying that the storming of our Capitol building is a deeply troubling event that affects students like us just as it has most Americans. These events were not done by one terrorist or even a small team but rather a large mob which is a result of systemic issues stoked and normalized by Donald Trump and his cronies. There is a lot to dissect here but our focus is local at the moment. SDSU sent out an email yesterday that pointed out that these events wer...e shocking and emphasized the role voting plays in our democracy. Considering the time, this is wholly unacceptable. While mental health is critical in this pandemic, if you are sad, disheartened, enraged, or impacted emotionally by this event in general, the best thing you can do is to GET INVOLVED. Democracy takes work and the fastest way to preserve democracy and improve on our institutions is to be informed and to get connected with local politics. This is what we do as SDSU democrats and we are imploring you to spread the word that we will be doing the work to make sure this never happens again as the SDSU administration has thought it unnecessary to inform you of us and other political organizations. This summer has been a turbulent one, to say the very least. With the killing of George Floyd the nation and especially black communities across the country reached a tipping point that has lead to what many are calling the largest civil rights movement in history. The outcome is yet to be fully understood but we as an org tried to do our part by coming together to propose changes that would help fix the criminal justice system in San Deigo. We came up with a ten-point plan and sent it to all of city council, the San Diego police chief, and the candidates running for congress in our 52nd district. This fight is far from over and protests should be expected again if substantial and drastic change isn't achieved. Hello All! Just a month until school starts again, and four until the presidential election. We will be having meetings this semester every other Thursday starting the 27th of August from 5:00 to 5:40 pm.
