Each time they fail a class, they lose 5 credits for graduation, lose GPA points, and must repeat the course. Parents can support students in staying on top of their grades by checking on their progress in Parent Vue: https://pvue.psusd.us/PXP2_Login_Parent.aspx There, you can see your student’s current grades, attendance, and any missing assignments. Counseling hours for 9th and 10 grade will be from 1-2 PM and 11th grade will be from 2-3 PM. In support of this push for our students to prepare themselves for college and careers, we will participate in the following spirit week dress-up days: Monday: Dress for Success. We began with parent, student, and staff discussions last year and will be continuing for the remainder of this school year. Part of that process includes revising our vision and the schoolwide learner outcomes we are committed to ensuring all our students reach by the time they graduate from DHSHS. The revised vision we have agreed on is We are Advancing DHS. This vision reflects that our purpose as a school is to benefit the entire community of DHS through our work at the school and the future impact our graduates will make. Schoolwide Learner Outcomes To support our vision, we identified graduate ideals (called Schoolwide Learner Outcomes) that describe the qualities and skills we want our graduates to have in order for them to advance themselves and their community. Zoom information: Meeting ID: 791 9308 9490 Password: a7Qnex The Importance of Post-High School Education and Training (Part 3) You and your students are hearing a lot from our school staff about the importance of completing A-G requirements, Career Technical (CTE) or military pathways, and continuing education beyond high school. This series is intended to share with our parents the reasons for this push. Any level of education or training beyond high school helps people to get hired and to stay employed during hard economic times. The more education a person has, the less likely they were to be unemployed during the height of the COVID closures, for example. According to this week’s source, in April 2020, the unemployment rate of people with a bachelor’s degree (4 years) was only 8.5%, compared to 13.9% for those with an associate degree (2 years), 18.6% for those with some college (no degree) and 19.2% for those with a high school diploma or less. As of September, less than 5% of college graduates are still unemployed, compared to almost 10% of high school graduates. Encouraging our young people to plan for and earn a college or professional degree will help them stay employed in the future. La Importancia de Educación y Entrenamiento después de la Escuela Preparatoria (Parte 2) Usted y sus estudiantes están escuchando mucho del personal de la escuela la importancia de completar los requisitos de A-G, Career Technical (CTE) o caminos militares y continuar su educación más allá después de la escuela preparatoria. Esta serie tiene como objetivo compartir con nuestros padres las razones por esto. Según la fuente de información de esta semana, cualquier educación más allá de la preparatoria mejora las posibilidades de nuestros estudiantes de ser empleados y de ganar salarios más altos. En el 2019, la tasa de desempleo para los adultos con un diploma de la escuela preparatoria fue del 3.7%, en comparación con el 2.7% para aquellos con un título universitario de dos años y el 2.2% para aquellos con un título universitario de cuatro años. The Importance of Post-High School Education and Training (Part 2) You and your students are hearing a lot from our school staff about the importance of completing A-G requirements, Career Technical (CTE) or military pathways, and continuing education beyond high school. This series is intended to share with our parents the reasons for this push. Be on the lookout for it next week! Senior Support with Financial Aid Our counseling department has planned three steps to support seniors with their financial aid applications for college. These items are required for ALL students to benefit from grants, scholarships and loans for community college, private schools and California State University (CSU) and University of California (UC). Next week, our counselors will continue offering individual appointments with students for help completing their college and financial aid applications. Please see below for details. PTSA Coffee with the Principal PTSA (Parent-Teacher-Student Association) is an official group, run by DHSHS parents and students for the benefit of our DHSHS students.
