Nov 2 2020 | Painting is my first love. I took the long scenic route to get back to my passion and over the years I worked in graphic design and photojournalism, both of which have significantly influenced my art. Inspired by abstract artists like Robert Rauschenberg and Helen Frankenthaler, and Richard Diebenkorn, I am a mostly self-taught mixed media painter who uses materials like acrylic paint and paper, color, and texture to spark the imagination, challenge conventional ideas of beauty and connect people through art.

A windmill by Mary Foote. Not unlike the windmills we have in Palm Springs, but this design gives me childhood nostalgia. Anyone else used to blow on the tiny paper windmills growing up?

A powerful blazer by Nessuno. Loving the boss babe vibes it gives off.

Drawing the human figure accurately is one of the great challenges in art, and this group will allow local artists and hobbyists a chance to practice in the Coachella Valley! Join us at Coachella Valley art Center while we mix up the combination of short, long, and medium duration poses from session to session. There will be no formal teaching, but those new to figure drawing are welcome to come. More advanced artists are often happy to give advice and input while the model is on break. First class back will be October 10th! Sign up at https://www.meetup.com/Desert-Figure-Drawing-Meetup/

Calling all women artists interested in painting and makeup application! We have created a workshop at the Coachella Valley Art Center to meet every other Saturday morning from 10 am until 1 pm. You've seen those elaborate body paint "costumes" on models at high-end parties, in the movies, and at other events. We aspire to be that good! But all skill levels are welcome. A woman model will be on hand to serve as the canvas, and air brushes, some paints and some stencils will be provided. Join just to be part of a fun workshop, or develop your skills for potential paying gigs as a body artist. First class back will be October 3rd! Sign up at https://www.meetup.com/Face-and-Body-Painting-by-Figure-8/

These are two different pieces by Mary Foote but I couldn't help but putting them together. Rusted metal has always fascinated me. Especially when its seen next to a fresh piece, unaffected by the elements. Just in this one rusted piece the various shades of orange and umber shows all the multiple ways steel can be transformed.

A reminder of the last show we had right before Covid hit. The Power of Words. A powerful exhibit reminding how much the words that we use can affect everything around us. We would love to hear some words that have affected you during covid. The good the bad and the ugly. Please share!

Color! Colors everywhere! Impossibly thin layers of striped glass lean against each other waiting for their turn to be fused, ground or warped into a work of art. Blake and Susan will without a doubt make something stunning with this kaleidoscope of color.
