Presenting the biennial Delta College Art Faculty Show open online at gallery.deltacollege.edu Featured in this post: Mario Moreno ... Professor of Art: Painting & Drawing Mario Moreno has been teaching drawing and painting for 25 years at Delta College. He is a native artist of the San Joaquin Valley and educated at California State University, Chico and Sacramento. His work has been part of the Royal Chicano Air Force and regional muralist movements. Moreno’s work often focuses on vibrant, abstract paintings that explore the social, political, and cultural verities of the Chicano experience. Paint is applied for its own content, and not solely as a vehicle to imitate an object. Abstract application is used as a play of memories, promoting the reciprocal relationship of color and memory a gathering of observations and reflections. Presenting the biennial Delta College Art Faculty Show open online at gallery.deltacollege.edu Last night's virtual reception was awesome, "seeing" faculty and students, former and current, coming out in support of the Visual and Multimedia Arts at Delta College! With renewed hope that we may now move forward with the challenge to fight climate change, we present this series of work for our first post for the faculty show:... Kirstyn Russell @pleasepleaseletmegetwhatiwant Professor of Photography Untitled Series 2020 20 x 24 C print I woke up to darkness on the morning of September 9th, 2020. It was already 7:30 am but the room was dark with little light coming in through the curtains. I could tell something was off so I quickly got dressed and we all went outside into an apocalyptic morning. The sun was gone. I brought my camera to document this unbelievable experience. These are images taken between 7:30 am and noon. I had to use a tripod and my exposures were long. I was wearing two masks and encountered people wearing respirators. I still haven’t recovered from this day. The Tungsten light was fascinating and challenging, but what the day actually represents is a wakeup call and terrifying. I process the world through photographs, and I am thankful I have these images to remind myself and others how close we are to irreparable damage to our environment. I hope I don’t have another opportunity to photograph a sepia colored day with no sun. May we move forward and care for each other and the earth better. @sjdeltacollege @hortongallery_deltacollege @sjdc_ceramics_sculpture @sjdc_photography @arirebek @shendoe @ruthasantee #photography #climatechangeisreal #hopeforchange #tungstenlight #cleanair #firefighters
