Cheer for Children Redondo Beach

Well it is official. The po box is closed. The phone number disconnected. If we had a location we would say the office is closed, but since it was out of my livingroom, can't say that :). Again, thanks to all of our supporters over the years. Happy 2019!

10/3/18 Hi everyone, well as you probably all know we are in the process of closing Cheer after 30 years. Many circumstances have contributed to this thought, the orthopedically handicapped children's classrooms were moved out of Redondo Beach, hard to find space for holiday events, Toy collecting and sorting was very time consuming, etc. and Kathryn and I are just tired! It has been a labor of love but time to end. That said, we are still collecting toys, toiletries, new clothes etc. for the hospital this season so if you want to help just leave a message on the Cheer line: 310-540-2494. As always we so appreciate all of your kind generous hearts. They are many wonderful small non profits out there for you to help. As always, much love, Donna and Kathryn.

8/6/17 Apparently I am on a roll so our most recent event was our "Back to School". We gave over 200 children filled backpacks and school uniforms (if needed) plus Target gift cards for new shoes. Always so rewarding to see those sweet faces excitingly pick out their backpack! That's it for now, we are all updated. Have a great week. Donna and Kathryn

8/6/17 Two weeks after the wonderful fishing day the Redondo Beach Mini Tri was held. Over 600 people participated and again, Rick and Connie Crump donated a wonderful amount to Cheer. After that our wonderful supporters at the Cigar Ayslum had their annual get together and advised that a lovely amount was raised. We love those people!

8/6/17 Oh my gosh, can it really be August already. I have been remiss in my postings - so sorry. Well in June we have out Fishing Day at the sports pier. We started as usual at Captain Kidd's when John showed the kids all of the different fish. Then we went over to the pier when our wonderful volunteers helped each child with a pole and bait. I think every one of the children caught a fish (which was thrown back in). Polly's on the Pier donated a wonderful luncheon. Marina volunteers helped the children "stamp" their own tote bags which Cheer filled with bubble kits, etc. It was a wonderful warm day of joy.

6/1/17 Is it possible that another month has flown by??? Hard to believe but loving all of the beautiful flowers and trees in bloom. Quick reminder: June 7 we are having our Fishing Day for our special students. We will be at the little pier by Polly's about 9:30 after a tour of Captain Kidds. Also a fyi - if any of you will be at the RB Tri on June 11, come find our table and get a free hug. This is the 13th year that they have supported Cheer. Donna

5/4/17 Well the Easter party was wonderful. The kids were so excited to see the bunny. A local church donated stuffed animals and our Kathryn made wonderful "baskets" out of sand buckets, that the kids or parents can use again, with filled eggs, a cute rabbit,and bubbles. She buys the cutest stuff. Next is the Fishing Day at the old pier where Pollys resturant is. It is Wednesday morning, June 7th. Please contact us if you would like to volunteer. 2016 has gone by so quickly it is hard to believe! It was a year of highs and lows for most everyone I would think. However, due to your generous hearts with monetary donations, gift cards, toys and fulfilling children's wishes, it is definitely a "high" holiday season for our families and children. We, and they, wish you a very happy 2017! Thank you all.

12/19/16 I thought I wrote a thank you message but don't see. Excuse me if I write it twice. Rick and Connie Crump gave us a lovely check from the proceeds of the RB Mini Tri. They have been supporters for many years. A big thank you to them and all of the athletes and volunteers involved in the race.

Last week we had the party at Washington/Adams schools. The night before was rainy and blustery but Friday morning the sun came and the children were in the parking lot to welcome Santa coming in the fire truck. Great morning!

Ruby's car show was a great success even though it was overcast. Kim said they had over 200 cars and most people brought more than one toy. It took 3 car trips and 1 truck full to get them to Santa's Cheer workshop. Head elf Nancy sorted all day and people brought in their Adopt A Family gifts. What a wonderful day of generosity.
