Parkinson's Disease (PD) is a life altering progressive neurological condition that reduces the affected individual's ability to move. Yet increasing exercise is arguably the most effective life style change for those living with Parkinson's. Read this powerful blog post to learn how dedication to exercise, physical challenges, and mindset have helped these "PD outliers" thrive with Parkinson's Disease: https://pdwise.com/stories/pd-outliers/

Check out these fun shots of our friend AJ, using our new BLazePods during PT to work on the coordination of all of her body segments including her head and eyes, to improve her balance. We very much enjoy working with this fun-loving girl who never backs down from a challenge. She has a personal goal of being able to run and skip independently again, and her "why not?" attitude has her well on her way! ...stay tuned. Way to go AJ!

Parents of children with disabilities are facing difficult decisions about how to keep their children safe and learning. To help, Stanford University has developed a Back-to-Safe Communities of Learning (SCOL) Decision Guide in English and Spanish. The tool was designed with and for parents of children with special healthcare needs based on input from public-health experts, parents, and health providers. It is meant to serve as a conversation starter and to guide... discussion between a parent and a trusted advisor, such as a pediatric health provider. This information was provided to us by the Administration for Community Living and you can click on the thumbnail below to access the decision guide. Additionally, if you are a parent of a child with a disability and you are looking for support because your child is missing out on the benefits of regular physical activity due to not attending school or his/her usual services such as PT, give us a call. We are open and providing both skilled PT services and Assisted Fitness for individuals of all ages with disabilities in an environment that is socially distanced and constantly sanitized throughout the day. We also have a private pediatric treatment room available upon request. We understand that the circumstances around COVID-19 are making it more challenging for those who are already at a high risk for health complications to stay active and healthy; furthermore, there is a real potential for our little ones to miss out on opportunities that would otherwise help with their physical and mental development. We are here for you, and want to help! (619)667-8644 https://stanfordmedicine.qualtrics.com//form/SV_3RcFo5QJ5p

What a fantastic Friday! TODAY is the day that Maria was able to stand by herself for the first time since her Spinal Cord Injury 5 years ago! (There is also a video in the comments where you can see her go from sitting to standing.) What an incredible moment and accomplishment for Maria! But did you hear that? 5 years! Over here at Challenge Center we don't exactly follow what others think neuro rehab "should" look like. Can't wait to see what Maria accomplishes next!

Check out this awesome thank you letter from our friend Hailey! We were so thrilled to see her yesterday and hear about all the awesome things she has been up to lately. Hailey suffered a life threatening Traumatic Brain Injury in 2017. Her fight-hard spirit helped her progress along during her time at Challenge Center and beyond. She has gone from needing a feeding tube and breathing assistance, to running half marathons and coaching high school sports! Here at Chall...enge Center, we get the great pleasure of helping people transform their lives and regain the ability to do things that make them happy, but it is also really nice for us when we get the opportunity to share that feeling with you all. Thank you so much for the update Hailey. We are truly impressed by your persistent hard work and are really glad to have been able to be a part of your recovery! See more

Since May, Great Plates Delivered: Home Meals for Seniors has been providing home-delivered meals to adults 65+ and those 60-64 with certain health conditions during the COVID-19 pandemic. Recently, the San Diego County Board of Supervisors voted to create a new program, Great Plates 2.0: Dinner Delivered, to support adults of all ages who have disabilities and/or health conditions that make preparing or obtaining food difficult. This program provides one hearty, home-delivered meal (dinner) per day from a local restaurant and is supported by local allocation of CARES Act funds. Enrollment for both Great Plates Programs is now open. Call (800) 339-4661
