Hi Cabrillo International Students, Don't forget that the time in California is going to change on Sunday, November 1. This will impact the times of your zoom classes starting on Monday. Be sure to turn your clocks backward 1 hour on Sunday night starting at 2 am Pacific Standard Time. This means that we get one extra hour of sleep that day! Especially those students who are currently back home and taking courses at Cabrillo, please be aware of the time difference.

Dear Cabrillo International Students, You may have heard that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has proposed a rule eliminating "duration of status" for F students and their dependents. This item is at the proposed rule stage, which means that it will proceed through normal public notice and comment procedures before any final rule is published. That means that there is no change happening yet. We will be monitoring this rule and let you know as we find out more infor...mation. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. For more information, please see NAFSA's information page on the proposed rule at: https://www.nafsa.org//br/proposal-replace-duration-status Best, Cabrillo College International Student Program Team

A complete list of resources can be found here: Restore Student and Family Support Resources Other actions that are being taken by the college: We are monitoring the fire conditions to assess whether fall semester operations will continue as planned or be temporarily suspended. Similar to COVID planning, people need to be ready for suspension of normal operations with little notice as conditions change. Remember that a significant number of students and employees may be subject to evacuation orders or have already evacuated because of fire conditions. Dear Cabrillo International Students, Please see the email from Cabrillo President below. Fall semester will start next Wednesday. Also there are lots of resources - see below. Again, email us if you have any questions! Stay safe!... Best, Cabrillo College International Student Team Dear Colleagues The emergency conditions in the Santa Cruz County region have led me to postpone the start of the fall semester until Wednesday of next week. We will attempt to launch classes and services on Wednesday, August 26. A significant number of our students and staff need a cushion of time to take care of family and loved ones. Before making the decision I consulted with cabinet members and leaders of the faculty senate, union, and CCEU. I also took into consideration the number of people that I already know are impacted by evacuation orders, the expanding size of the fire and degree of containment, and the request that has been made to serve as an evacuation center (see below). Other quick updates: The County Emergency Operations Center has requested that Cabrillo College provide space as an overnight shelter for individuals who have had to evacuate. FPPO staff are mobilizing today to prepare the gymnasium for Red Cross services and overnight sleeping arrangements. The K Parking Lot will serve as a host for overnight safe parking for RV's and those who want to sleep in their vehicles. The M and S lots will be used by emergency services providers as staging areas for their crews -- mostly ambulances. The college is cancelling outdoor events scheduled for this weekend. The Farmer's Market will be cancelled this Saturday, along with public safety motorcycle classes. Any other event should be cancelled because of air quality concerns. For the foreseeable future, Jon Salisbury and relevant division deans and managers have pre-approved authority to monitor air quality conditions and cancel activities outdoors. That gives them the power to declare that essential workers cannot work outside; or that classes planned for outside activities can be postponed. Kristin Fabos will develop a message for all students to receive regarding the postponement of the start of the fall semester. We will post it on our web banner as well. This is a time of great community heartbreak, anxiety, and need. Please take care of yourselves and your loved ones. If the college needs assistance to mobilize in any way, I will ask for your help. For now, focus on yourself, family, neighbors, and loved ones. Best wishes.
