I hope you all are doing well and staying safe & healthy! I have a couple quick announcements. I have moved over one suite to 315, I am still located on the 3rd floor. Also, my clinical rotation for school that was originally scheduled to begin on April 20th has been postponed and will now begin July 1st. Regardless if the state permits massage therapists to resume full time treatments or not, this clinical rotation for school is full time so I will not be taking in any appointments. Currently, I am only able to take in clients with a doctor referral. Thank you all for your patience and understanding during this time. I am extremely grateful for all the support from my amazing clients and hopefully I can see you all again soon

As always, health and safety of my clients are first & foremost. COVID-19 remains a fluid situation and changes day by day. Right now, I have decided to remain open but for the next two weeks (Now - March 31st) I will minimize the amount of clients to no more than 3 per day. I already schedule 15 minutes between each client for cleaning & sanitization of equipment but during this time, I will add an additional 15 minutes between clients to allow for a more thorough clean. I ...use hospital grade sanitizing materials & bleach all linens. All appointments after my max of 3 per day have already been reschedule so, if you have not heard from me your appointment is still set but may remain tentative during this time. Although, if you would like to cancel or reschedule your appointment please contact me ASAP so I can get those on my waiting list in for their appointment. My school schedule continues to change throughout this situation and I will contact you directly if there will be a change in your appointment. I appreciate your understanding during this time. Please contact me for any questions or concerns. Stay safe & healthy! Brittany Large, CMT (808)295-4917

As most of you know, I will be starting my first clinical rotation for school & will not be taking appointments April 18th - May 17th. Here are my last available appointments as of right now. As always, you can be added to my waitlist for any last minute openings. I also wanted remind everyone of my cancellation policy which I require a 48 hour notice for ALL cancellations and rescheduled appointments. I understand that unforeseen circumstances can occurs but In order for a ...cancellation policy to be effective, I must enforce it 100% of the time. A late cancellation results in a 50% charge of service & a no-show results in a 100% charge of service. If there are any questions or concerns please feel free to reach out to me. Have a great weekend! Brittany Large, CMT (808)295-4917

Did you know some essential oils require hundreds (some times thousands) of pounds of raw material to make a single ounce of essential oil? This is an incredibly taxing process of the environment, all for such a small amount of EO. This is another reason why TRUE & PURE EOs are incredibly expensive. If you see lavender oil on Amazon for $5, it's probably not the real deal. I use EOs VERY limited in my practice and I do so for one specific evidence-based reason, our sense of ...smell can be extremely powerful at evoking memories which can in return stimulate relaxation. Administering EOs to treat health conditions is out of my scope of practice. EOs ingested or applied neat (undiluted) onto the skin can be extremely dangerous & each oil has a special percentage ratio that it must be diluted at. Like supplements, EOs are not regulated by the FDA. This is extremely scary considering all the MLMs out there like YoungLive or doTerra that are promoting what can potentially be toxic and damaging, these marketers are not licensed aromatherapists. "Oils should be kept away from children and babies, who are more susceptible to potential toxicity, and pregnant women should take caution with certain compounds." - Megan Buerger (washingtonpost.com) For those who are interested in EOs and would like an awesome resource on EO safety & contraindications, this book is a MUST have (even if you are not a health care professional): Essential Oil Safety by Robert Tisserand Brittany Large, CMT

Short answer is, yes. I do accept tips but I never expect them. I love the variety of clients I treat, some come in for a spa treatment and some come in for medical/health reasons. I am implementing more evidence-based modalities into my treatments & there are clients that are reimbursed from their insurance. I am a solo business so I have set my prices to what I feel I am worth. I recently switched over to a flat rate fee for my time & expertise; I never want finances to get in the way of you getting the treatment you need by charging more for a specific modality. Clients that do not tip receive the exact same treatment as those that do tip. Tipping is always left at your discretion. Thank you for reading & happy Saturday! Brittany Large, CMT (808) 295-4917

This is a common one. First, DOMS is not the result of built up lactate (lactic acid minus a proton). It has been theorized that DOMS is from micro-trauma or micro-tears which causes an inflammatory process and a shift of electrolytes and fluid which has nothing to do with lactate build up. Lactate is naturally removed from the body within the first hour after exercise. It is quite ironic to think that massage can treat DOMS because massage has been known to CAUSE muscle sore...ness the following day. BUT studies have shown that massage can alleviate symptoms up to 30% at best. Some muscle soreness after an intense work out is to be expected but if you are extremely sore, I would suggest postponing your massage. It's been over 10 years since I went through massage therapy school and a lot of what I was taught about massage therapy have since been debunked. I have studied human biology for the last 4 years & have done huge amounts of research during that time. This is in hope to provide the best, most affective treatment for each and every one of my clients. I will be sharing periodically some common myths you may hear your massage therapist say. I'll start with probably the most com...mon, "Massage detoxifies or flushes lactic acid." Although toxins do exist, there is no evidence supporting that massage breaks up or rids our bodies of those toxins. This is hugely the liver's job. The liver filters out toxins from your blood & eliminates toxins that arise during digestion. Massage can actually produce a mild toxic state called rhabdomyolysis. Ever felt beat up after a massage? You probably have experienced rhabdo. Massage can actually interfere with the elimination of lactic acid, but I will save that point for the next myth.
