Art of the Day, "Waiting for Dorothy" In the artwork of Brandon Truscott, sophisticated characters are intertwined with children’s storybook symbols that construct visualizations with a dark satirical twist. Utilizing a grisaille method, Truscott slowly builds up translucent oil colors over a monotone drawing. He then paints the opaque layers in lighter areas to finish. The oils are painted on panels and finished in Baroque frames. Brandon Truscott "Waiting for Dorothy"... Oil on Panel 20" x 10" See more

"I am also drawn to the landscape of the West. Like the old wooden fishing boats, many of the once prevalent barns are sadly disappearing. Most are endangered and being replaced by lifeless, metal buildings. The strong, simple shapes of Western barns inspire me to try to somehow preserve their beauty before they are all gone." "The subjects and style I choose are drawn animal portraits because I seek to explore the emotional qualities of creatures in an attempt to portray both the physical and emotional truths of the animal kingdom. "The calculated murder of an unarmed man is the very definition of injustice. Seeing this crime carried out by police has inspired millions to righteous anger and protest. "To express my concern about the executive department of our government, I circled these words on law book text pages: In order to prevent the first term from being taken up with schemes to secure a re-election and to preserve, protect, and defend the federal constitution, requires that we prevent the executive from abusing his share of powerthe executive, without any immediate check against abuse may be justly regarded as the most serious cause of apprehension existing ...in our political system. If corruption shall ever destroy the glorious fabric, it will enter through this avenue." - "As materials for my art projects I recycle old law books that have been replaced by computers. These books are interesting to me because the decisions recorded in them have shaped the past and still influence present day actions." "My ceramic work often utilizes representations of objects that hold personal symbolism. The idea of a rotten apple has become very symbolic of my personal view of police organizations as well as the actions of their officers. The way that ethical cops are treated when they try to hold their peers accountable is rotten. The lack of sentencing and accountability for officers that are complicit is rotten. It’s getting harder and harder to see which apples spoiled all of the oth...ers. They all look rotten to me." "My work reveals the hidden experiences of having an invisible disability and originates from my personal experiences and the consequences of living with this label and identity. The sick self is the private self, the hidden self. In this age of identity affirmation, it is the last area of the self that is still private and intentionally concealed. It is difficult to talk about the fact of your own subjectivity, vulnerability, fragility, and mortality."
