Check out the Forward 50 2020: The people we (mostly) needed in the year we didn’t. Who are some of your favorites on this list?
We wish everyone a happy and healthy secular new year!
For 30 years, the Women of Beth Israel have been bringing a Christmas dinner to the residents of Rachel’s Women’s Center in downtown San Diego. We appreciate our volunteers’ giving spirit!
Urgent Call to Action: Ensure the Diversity of Jewish Life is Reflected at the World Zionist Congress (of which Rabbi Gimbel is a delegate) As the World Zionist Congress convenes virtually this week, leaders of the right-wing and Haredi Zionist parties have come to an Agreement on Principles designed to diminish and marginalize the Reform, Conservative, and Reconstructionist Movements which comprise more than 20 percent of elected WZC delegates. Join the Reform, Conservat...ive, and Reconstructionist Movements by signing the urgent petition below. These progressive Movements also make up the dominant majority of the membership of important legacy Zionist organizations, including Hadassah, WIZO, B’nai Brith, and NA’AMAT. If the World Zionist Congress ratifies this agreement, the World Zionist Organization and Israeli National Institutions will no longer be the roundtable in which all Jewish Zionist viewpoints are recognized and respected. This agreement is unacceptable to the Reform, Conservative, and Reconstructionist Movements and for all voices who believe in gender equality, inclusion, pluralism, tolerance, and Jewish unity in the World Zionist Organization.
Looking for an interesting and current read? This book is a collection of reflections, prayers, and poems of 165 individual souls who collectively tell the story of right now with depth and heart and startling brilliance. Both our very own Rabbi Jason Nevarez and his wife Nicole wrote their reflections in this book, When We Turned Within (Reflections on COVID-19).
Watch the opening plenary of the World Zionist Congress! #WZC2020 #ZionistCongress38
Boker tov! Rabbi Gimbel is up early for the first business meeting of the World Zionist Congress. What does that mean? Check it out! Watch through the end for a special prayer written by our former scholar in residence Alden Solovy.
We LOVE showing off our volunteers! Another successful meal delivery for Rachel's Women Center by our volunteers! Thank you to those who cooked and delivered food!
Change Begins With ME is calling on University City and the greater San Diego community to show up in solidarity with our Jewish neighbors. Posters reflecting support and love are encouraged. A University City Rabbi was recently attacked outside his synagogue. Rabbi Yonatan Halevy, of the Shiviti Congregation, says this was the latest in a series of incidents by a group of teenagers targeting his congregation that has increasingly escalated.
