YOLO COUNTY HEALTH COURT PROGRAM On December 22, 2020, Congregation Bet Haverim's Social Action Committee will host a presentation of Yolo County's Mental Health and Addiction Intervention Courts. The public is invited to this presentation which will take place at 2 pm by Zoom https://yolocounty.zoom.us/j/95788069443 You will hear from each of the partners from the MHC/AIC team including: Judge David Rosenberg, Chief Deputy District Attorney Jonathan Raven, Chief Deputy Pub...lic Defender Allison Zuvella, Deputy Probation Officer Jasmine Gonzalez, and Forensic Behavioral Case Manager Terri Lipelt. Mental Health and Addiction Intervention Courts are both minimum 18-month court-based treatment and monitoring systems for adult offenders with a serious mental illness and/or substance use disorders. These courts are designed to increase the treatment engagement of the participants while reducing both arrests, hospitalizations, and jail time both during and after their involvement and participation in the program. The program is a collaborative effort between the Yolo County Superior Court, Probation, Health and Human Services Agency, the Public Defender, and the District Attorney. Mental Health/Addiction Intervention Courts follows the Forensic Assertive Community Treatment model where participants get intense services two hours per week or meet with staff four times per week. The team provides participants with wrap-around treatment which includes a focus on mental health, substance abuse, housing, vocational and school, and physical health. The goal is to address the criminogenic factors and reduce recidivism. The program ends with a restorative justice conference and a graduation.

As we travel this road together on election day, may we be grounded in patience and surrounded by a peaceful calm, reminding us to be kind, be strong and stay together. I share with you this beautiful prayer by my colleagues. A prayer for now by Rabbi Stephanie Kolin and Rabbi Rachel Timoner... God of the fearful and the anxious, God who accompanies our ancestors Abraham and Sarah on their journeys through the unknown, God who amplifies the voices of the poor and the oppressed through our Prophets, God who values every human life with lovingkindness, inspire us to make our voices heard. Give the people of this land the courage and the safety to cast their ballots in peace. Protect the volunteers, the poll watchers, the poll workers and the voters. Guard our streets from violence. Guard each human life, each reflection of your image, as the process of our democracy unfolds. Spread your shelter of peace over our country, that we may have a clear and peaceful outcome to our election. Heal the wounds and the divisions in our land, so that we can see one another afresh and begin the work of building our future together. AMEN.

This is a critical and urgent issue facing the World Zionist Congress and an attempt to sideline progressive Jewish representation. Please read and sign the petition and share with your Jewish friends. https://cqrcengage.com/reformjudaism/app/sign-petition

A Special Message From Rabbi Greg: Dear Haverim, When I was a young boy, I dreamed of becoming a veterinarian and coming to UC Davis to study. Well, life can be funny that way. I really did end up coming to Davis, not to study though, but to serve. When I arrived in Davis 25 years ago with Julie, and our two kids in tow, to become the new rabbi at Bet Haverim, who knew then that we would, in fact, end up making our life in Davis for all these years, raising our family here, ...Continue reading
