Measles was declared eliminated in the United States in 2000, but recent outbreaks of the highly contagious disease is threatening the lives of many. This spike in measles cases in recent years is mainly due to individuals who have not been vaccinated, motivated by unscientific claims that vaccinations have negative effects spread by anti-vaccination groups.
