Ash Wednesday Message from Pastor Kathryn: February 17, 2021 Hello Dear Ones, Today, Ash Wednesday, is a day of releasing to God what which no longer serves that we might rise with Jesus Christ on Easter morning. Today, we join Christians globally and eternally, through prayer and rituals of release of harm and hurt, turning to God.... We are offering an on-line ZOOM service at 2pm today, February 17th. Please bring ash, if you made some, or a bit of dirt and an open heart. https://us02web.zoom.us/j/87859480513 If you’re not available or would rather have a private devotion at home, here’s a link to DIY Ash Weds at-home devotional service: https://inthebiglove.com//ash-wednesday-diy-ashes-making-/ Let us begin this season of Lent buoyed by God. The Holy One is our source of hope and healing, the font of eternal truths, and the infinite heart-beat of transforming love. Let us all rest in God’s Big Love today. Finally, a new PBS series premiers this week The Black Church: This is Our Story, This is Our Song, from Dr. Henry Louis Gates, Jr. of Harvard University. What a perfect way to begin Lent, walking with our siblings in faith. This is how we go forward with each other, with God revealed to us in Jesus Christ. Where there is hatred let us sow love; where there is injury pardon; where there is discord union; where there is doubt faith; where there is despair hope; where there is darkness light; where there is sadness joy. Grant that we may not so much seek to be comforted as to comfort; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; it is in forgiving that we are forgiven; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen.
Informative and hopeful... creating safety for our community and others.

Late winter beauty at BCCC and a St Valentine’s Day Blessing: There is but one love, Dear Ones, it is the Love of God. This Big Love flows through all that is. It moves from one being to another. It flows from one era to another. It continually seeks reunion with all beings. It endlessly attends the wellbeing of everything. May God’s Redemptive Love, made manifest in the person of Jesus Christ, bless you and your loved ones today. Peace be with you, Dear Ones! Amen.

Weekend Worship Message from Pastor Kathryn: January 9, 2020 Hello Dear Ones, The opening words of Charles Dickens’ novel about the French revolution came to mind today: It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything befo...Continue reading
Midweek Message from Pastor Kathryn: January 6, 2020 Hello Dear Ones, This national leadership transition is not going to be easy, is it? The eruption today in Washington, D.C. has been long in coming. We are witnessing the unraveling of a kind of white supremacy that leads by might and is stoked fear. Please continue to pray for our nation and for us to keep choosing God’s Dream for Humanity....Continue reading
Election Day Message from Pastor Kathryn: November 3, 2020 Hello Dear Ones, Across our country people are voting and votes are being counted typical behavior for a democracy. However, this election cycle is different, isn’t it? Since COVID 19 broke out our behaviors have changed and we’ve witnessed a magnification of the conflicts and challenges throughout our nation. These are very tense times....Continue reading
Special Message from Pastor Kathryn: January 6, 2020 Dear Ones, I write today as we listen to the news of violence in our nation’s capital including our temple of democracy. Knowing you are already praying for all who are in danger, all who are providing protection, all who are discerning next steps, and all who are engaging in violence let us take some solace in being connected one to another during this frightening time.... This is truly a most unusual time, but not unlike experiences other human societies have known. Even our beloved Jesus lived in a time when dangerous powers attempted to rerail justice. Our scripture reading last Sunday spoke to this the story of the magi and King Herod. Just as God spoke wisdom then, God will speak wisdom now. Dear Ones, be gentle with yourselves. Take a break from the news, if it is too much. It is surreal to watch and see events far away. As you pray, consider doing something lighting a candle, touching your Bible -- these physical actions ground us to eternal reality. And, if you know of someone directly impacted by events in Washington DC right now, please let us know so we can specifically pray for them. Later today I will post the regular Mid-Week email. Until then, may God’s strength and hope, clarity and justice descend upon us, all of us. In the Big Love, Pastor Kathryn

Loving God, we give thanks for our right to vote and know that the outcome of this and all elections affect our lives. We pray for healing for the divisions among us, patience as some of us wait hours to vote, and calm as we wait for the results of the election. Give us wisdom to make choices that benefit the least among us, and let us unite around the common good, mercy, and justice. May Your love sustain us. Amen. -- UCC

I hope all of you have safe pla...Continue reading
