She will also lead the "Tamano Circle Training and Choreography" that is famous for imparting strength and joy! The last part of class will often involve improvisational movement and performance development. You can show an excerpt of a "work in progress", or try an ideas that you want feedback on..This is not a critique, but it is an opportunity to learn and talk about each others work. This class challenges your imagination and your physicality - all with a poetic, joyous, and often funny wisdom of a unique art-form! These classes are fun, healing to body and spirit, and appropriate to all level movers. SHELLEY COOK-CONTRERAS is an internationally exhibited performance artist. She earned her MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute’s New Genres Department, and has taught performance at San Jose State University, New College, and La Esmeralda, the state university in Mexico City. Her performance projects have been funded by the California Arts Council and the National Endowments for the Arts. Shelley trained extensively in Butoh Dance with Hiroko Tamano, Diego Pinion, and Maureen Fleming, creating many solo and ensemble works within the Butoh discipline. She sees art as the subconscious expression of human kind, and that, like dreams, art seeks to communicate hidden truths with-in its images. Her teaching blends art practice with the healing wisdom from 30 years as a bodywork practitioner, (freemotionbodywork.com) She can be contacted at [email protected] Please feel free to contact me, Shelley Cook-Contreras, to answer questions. I can be reached at mobile phone 661-478-9983 more quickly than by mail. "Tamano Training FullCircle" Beginning in January, we will be hosting an 8 weekend intensive with Hioroko Sensei, "Tamono Training FullCircle". I will assist this intensive, emphasizing the investigation of ones own performance work...resulting in Performances at Studio 210, SF, on feb2th, and March 1st. Attendance at all Saturdays in this "Tamono Training FullCircle" not required, but recommended. These classes will continue to feature 3 sections ~ 1st: Selfcare, performance preparation warm-up practices, 2nd: the ever amazing and fun Tamano Circle Training, a veritable floor-bar of Butoh choreography, Thirdly, explorations toward performance. This will be a deepening practice, even if you do not plan to perform publicly. Cheers, Shelley Cook-Contreras 661-478-9983
