Bake bagels and feed the hungry. While supplies last, your entire purchase price ($18) will go to support Nourish You Community Kitchen (NYCK). Chef Joan has prepared over 100,000 meals for unhoused and low income residents of the East Bay since the COVID crisis began. Here's how it works: Email me to let me know you want one or more bagel making kits. Use the link below to make a tax-deductible contribution to NYCK. Forward your confirmation email to me at [email protected]. I'll provide the address at which you can pick up your bagel making kit(s) in the Rockridge neighborhood of Oakland on Friday, 2/19 or Saturday, 2/20. Yeah, I know it's a lot of steps, but it's actually easier than it sounds! https://www.nourishyou.net/
Taking orders for pick-up in Rockridge on Friday 2/19. (If you want to be certain of a kit for Friday, please order by 6pm Tuesday 2/16). Each kit contains 18 oz. organic naturally fermented bagel dough, sesame and poppy seeds, semolina flour (to keep bagels from sticking), a sheet of baking parchment, and detailed instructions. $18 per kit Email [email protected] to order. I'll request payment via Venmo using the same email address.
"We made them this morning and had a great lunch after we returned from our second COVID shot. Chewy and delicious with the smoked salmon that we've been waiting to have for too many months." LT and NN

From August 24 to October 2 Kids Cooking Club will make Jewish comfort foods in honor of the Jewish New Year (Rosh Hashanah). During this season it is traditional to eat special foods--especially dishes flavored with honey--for a "sweet New Year". Kids Cooking Club will teach a variety of sweet and savory dishes; hummus, rugelach, blintzes, kugel, challah, kreplach, honey cake, tzimmes, matzo ball soup, apple cake, honey-almond chicken (a great main dish for Rosh Hashanah dinner), lox, and shakshuka. During each session we will prepare a recipe together, learning a variety of versatile cooking techniques. We use time-tested, traditional recipes any balabusta (a Yiddish expression describing a good homemaker) would be proud to serve. *These recipes require a food processor.
We made sushi at Kids Cooking Camp. Today was the last day of camp. My campers are all starting school so I'm going to offer an after school program. What do you think of calling it "Kids Cooking Club"?
