The San Diego LGBT Community Center understands how difficult this year has been for many in the community. Although we aren’t able to gather and celebrate our annual event, we would like to offer you a warm meal to pick up. My Center Story started when I very first moved to San Diego from Toronto over 15 years ago. In my very early days in a new city, I learned of the Sunburst Youth Project and was so inspired by the creativity and passion of The Center in creating youth-centered housing that was groundbreaking for our community, as well as in the country. This first experience with The Center demonstrated the incredible work The Center does for so many in the community... The services, supports, and programs that The Center offers are so critical, and that is why I am a longtime Center supporter! The Center hosts our Transgender Discussion Group every Saturday from 5-7pm via Zoom. This is a discussion and support group for transgender and trans-questioning folks ages 18 and up. Meet lots of different members of the transgender and gender nonbinary community to discuss ideas, experiences and share resources. Our next meeting is tomorrow, Saturday, December 12th at 5pm. Today, The Center uplifts the historic remarks of Pope Francis and his support for civil unions for same-sex couples. As the highest profile member of the Catholic Church, his leadership and views have the power to change hearts and minds of families across the world, and we acknowledge his words and this shift, with respect and gratitude. The Center will continue its work to advocate for equal rights and treatment for the entire LGBTQ community.

Project TRANS at The Center presents Trans SOFFA, a support group for significant others, friends, family, and allies of transgender individuals. Today The Center celebrates #InternationalPronounsDay! This day seeks to make respecting, sharing, and educating about personal pronouns commonplace. Referring to people by the pronouns they determine for themselves is basic to human dignity. Being referred to by the wrong pronouns particularly affects transgender and gender nonconforming people. Together, we can transform society to celebrate people’s multiple, intersecting identities. Join us tonight, virtually via ZOOM, for our new Aromatic and Asexual Discussion Group that meets every 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month from 7:00pm-8:30pm! This is a support and discussion group for all people who identify on the aromantic spectrum, asexual spectrum, or both. Those questioning are also welcome. Like all sexualities and romantic orientations, there is a spectrum of experiences, in which all are valid.
