Thoracic mobility is essential if you have you have neck, shoulder, or low back dysfunction. The thoracic spine, which sits between the neck and the low back can receive stress if you have a job that requires a lot of sitting or bending. Having good mobility in this area can help you maintain good posture, and it gives you the ability to decrease the load of other structures as mentioned above. . . Here are some good examples of effective thoracic stretches demonstrated by ...one of our aides, Andrew. There are a variety of positions demonstrated depending on your home set-up or if you have difficulty or pain with certain positions. Each position has it’s own benefit. Your physical therapist can help you choose the correct stretches based on your abilities or previous injuries. . . For a more personalized exercise program, call us at 858-217-2496 for an eval or a free consultation! #AsisInAction See more

Landing and jumping is an important component for treatment with the active patient. One of our aides, James in demonstrating the do’s and don’ts. . . With proper landing, you want to ensure that your knees remain in the path of the toes. In the first video, James lands with his knees driving towards each other (knock knees). This is known as a valgus stress, which puts excessive pressure on your patellofemoral joint and puts you at risk for ligament or meniscus injurie...s with athletics. . . Proper landing involves the knees having good alignment with the toes and a soft landing. From the side view, James demonstrates good gluteus muscle control which allows him to sit back versus drive the knees over the toes. . . Give us a call at 858-217-2496 to schedule an evaluation or even a free consultation! We’re accepting new patients and are eager to get you up and moving! #AsisInAction See more

Today, our helpful aide Mathew was our model in helping demonstrate some very effective Latissimus Dorsi stretches. First, here’s a little info on this important muscle, the Latissimus Dorsi: - The lats are the largest and most broad muscles of the upper body and have multiple actions. This muscle starts from the spine, sacrum and scapula and attaches to the humerus (arm bone). - This muscle assists with various arm motions, trunk extension and flexion, pelvic tilting and br...eathing. - Stretching and improving mobility in your latissimus dori allows you to improve your standing and sitting posture and can even strengthen your swimming strokes! . . We’ve displayed these videos in order from easiest > most challenging. Try these stretches on your own at home, holding each position for about 30 seconds at a time, and if you need further help come see us at ASIS Physical Therapy. We’re also providing a Telehealth option if you prefer to social distance. Give us a call for more info at (858) 217-2496! . . If you have any recommendations for stretches or exercises you’d like to see us post, let us know! Tag us @AsisPhysicalTherapy and use our hashtag #AsisInAction See more
