A boy and a girl for Edna this afternoon. The boy was breech and a little twisted so she needed help. We got some good videos for this week’s newsletter, which will be all about kidding season stuff.

Forced kisses for Calico’s chunky monkey.
The house next door to my old farm in suburban Los Angeles (Altadena) is for sale and the listing photos show that my banana plantation is in good shape and producing. These are the small sweet variety Ice Cream.
First fire of winter in the @nectre_fireplaces baker’s oven.
Up on Pinyon Ridge it’s a paradise, just like the forest on our ranch before the fire.
Collecting Four winged saltbush (Atriplex canescens) seeds to plant in future foraging areas. Very palatable, high in protein & calcium.
Our neighbor Ron, who hosted us (goats included) during evacuation, has a pretty cool truck. The side says Largo Vista Ranch, Mustang Gentling, Llano, CA.
Announcement We are launching a newsletter. We want to share more with you about the post fire recovery of our land and everything we are learning from nature along this incredible journey. Some is difficult to share on social media. And we want to make sure you don’t miss the best things because an algorithm decided not to show them to you. ... The newsletter will be short to read (less than 5 minutes) but will include links to recorded lectures we found helpful or to educational activities for children for those who would like to explore more deeply. If you are already signed up for the Angeles Crest Creamery mailing list, you will receive The Obligate Resprouter. If not, you can sign up at our web site angelescrestcreamery.com
Scrub oaks are resprouting! I found two this afternoon, this small tree and a really big one. 6 weeks since fire.
It’s obvious at dinner time that Apple is the herd queen.
This is a favorite manzanita on the property. No resprouting yet. Some varieties of manzanita are resprouters and some aren’t. I don’t know which variety we have. So
Now that things are resprouting, we are keeping the goats in and feeding hay. Thank you again for the contributions to the hay fund, which are making this careful stewardship of the post fire landscape a practical reality.
Largo Fire (2010) burn scar. Mostly scrub oak and mountain mahogany. No pine recovery this early. This is across the street from us and a reasonable predictor of our recovery trajectory.
Ringer really likes it when you brush his face with this really soft mini brush.
Lola is keeping me company during tonight’s Poppy Talk @theodorepayne thank you for the great programming!
Yucca regrowth. 39 days post fire.
