We are pleased to announce AFC’s Chief Executive Officer, Joanna Richardson-Jones, is a recipient of the 2020 Woman of Distinction Award given by the Surf City Auto Group Community Foundation. Richardson-Jones’ vision and leadership of Alzheimer’s Family Center for the past seven years, her business acumen and tireless dedication to helping people with memory loss and their families are just a few reasons why she received this prestigious honor. A recent example of why she truly is a Woman of Distinction occurred when the pandemic started one year ago, and AFC was forced to shut its doors. Richardson-Jones and her staff continued serving patients and their caregivers remotely via Zoom videoconferencing through our newly created Center Without Walls.

Thank you! We at @alzfamcenter appreciate our wonderfully hard working social work team. Without you and your dedication to our patients we wouldn’t be as successful at meeting our mission of enhancing the lives of those effected by dementia. #wednesdaywisdom tip: find yourself an amazing social worker and everything will be alright.
It’s not too late to put your spending to good use. Select us for your charity of choice when you shop Amazon. #thankfultuesday
After the tumultuous events of 2020, we invite you to come with us on a weeklong journey of self-reflection and growth. All caregivers, whether clinical and/or spiritual, need an opportunity to pause and reflect. What strengths did you discover about yourself? What interventions can we share with our patients, staff, congregants, family and friends?... With 2021 proving to be just as turbulent, walk with us as we build on the discoveries within ourselves, our communities, and this "new normal" to create a plan of spiritual, physical and mental rejuvenation. DM us by Friday 3/12 to RSVP your spot!
Please join us for Spirituality Awareness Week beginning next Monday, March 15th! Judy Osuna, AFC's Community Outreach and Education Manager, is one of the guest speakers! CEU's available.

Social Isolation has impacted us all, none harder than those effected by Dementia. The @washingtonpost recently stated that, Doctors have reported increased falls, pulmonary infections, depression and sudden frailty in patients who had been stable for years.... More than 134,200 people have died from Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia since March. That is 13,200 more U.S. deaths caused by dementia than expected, compared with previous years, according to an analysis of federal data. @alzfamcenter has taken this opportunity to evolve the services we provide with the same expected quality. Visit our website (link in bio) for some creative solutions for you and your loved ones.
The social isolation seniors are practicing to protect themselves from COVID-19 is having adverse effects, and especially on those people with dementia and Alzheimer's disease. Please read our latest blog post about these facts and the many ways our Center Without Walls helps combat social isolation. https://afscenter.org/the-impact-social-isolation-has-on-d/
Our 40th Anniversary Harvest Fete in October was a huge success, thanks to our enthusiastic guests, delicious meals prepared by Chef Pascal and the wonders of Zoom technology. Guests feasted on scrumptious food and enjoyed a cooking demonstration by Chef Pascal and a video on AFC’s 40th anniversary. A fascinating Q&A followed with Chef Pascal. Here are a few pictures of the evening taken by our guests.
Many cars filled with smiling patients and caregivers drove though AFC's parking lot for our Aloha to Summertime event on Friday, September 25th. Colorful Hawaiian shirts, leis and hats were worn while the staff and patients greeted each other enthusiastically and safely from a distance. The parking lot was transformed through beautiful signs, music, balloons, and sidewalk chalk art. Goodie bags were given out as cars exited. We also live-streamed the event via Zoom. Thank y...ou to everyone who attended and decorated their cars with pretty signs and sweet messages for us! We miss you all and look forward to having more drive-by events until we can be together again in our building. #StayingTogetherWhileApart
Please join us for our 40th Anniversary Harvest Fete on October 2nd, 2020 with Chef Pascal Olhats! Reservations will be taken on a first come, first served basis. The RSVP and registration link is on our website. Hope you can attend!
On #LaborDay, AFC recognizes the unpaid labor, continuous dedication and hard work by caregivers for their loved ones with Alzheimer's disease and dementia. Especially during these difficult and most challenging times, you make a difference every single day! You work is truly a labor of love. Thank you for all you do! #alzheimersdisease #dementia #dementiacare #alzheimerscare
Here's a peek into how your GoFundMe donations made an important and positive impact on our patients' and their families' lives. Thank you again for helping them during these challenging times! https://youtu.be/J4RctqgGeb8
Over 100 patients and their families drove through the AFC parking lot during our Cruise By event last Thursday and we all had so much fun! The patients were greeted by our smiling staff, pretty signs, upbeat music, sidewalk chalk drawings and balloon art. The staff waved and cheered for all 75 cars that cruised by. We miss you! On the way out of the parking lot, goodie bags were safely given out. We were surprised and delighted to see how some patients decorated their cars with sweet signs for us! It was a real love fest all around! #StayingTogetherWhileApart
We did it! Thank you to all of our friends and donors! Because of your support, we exceeded our GoFundMe campaign goal of $25,000! The $35,000 raised will be used to provide laptops, tablets and comfort items such as robotic pets and teddy bears to help our seniors feel connected, less isolated and loved. ... Our Center Without Walls continues to support our seniors while they shelter in place. For information about our programs, call 714-642-0851.
FINAL HOURS! Our GoFundMe campaign ends at midnight tonight, June 17th. Please help us raise the funds to purchase laptops, tablets and robotic pets that 80% of our seniors need now, while in social isolation. Please donate or share this post NOW to help us meet (or surpass!) our goal Thanks in advance! https://charity.gofundme.com//sustain-our-seniors-during-c
"Isolation is deadlier than the COVID virus." Please listen to what Delaine says in this video about the ways she and her husband, Walt, are benefiting from our Center Without Walls. Eddie and Kathleen have been sheltering in place at home, but they are among the lucky ones. They have a tablet to log onto Alzheimer’s Family Center’s brain-engaging video-conferenced activities to help them feel connected. But 80% of our seniors lack access to these services because they don’t have a tablet or laptop. Our Board has pledged to match up to $10,000 to help us purchase this technology for our seniors. Your donation will go twice as far! Help us provide the tech...nology that will help our seniors cope with social isolation and loneliness, and help them maintain cognition. Every dollar you donate is tax-deductible and any amount helps. If you can't donate, please share this request with your family and friends. Thanks in advance! https://charity.gofundme.com//sustain-our-seniors-during-c
Please help us continue to be a lifeline for families challenged by caring for a memory-impaired loved one, especially during this unique and stressful time. If you can donate, every dollar helps. And if you will share our GoFundMe campaign with your personal circles, that is greatly appreciated, too. Thank you in advance for caring about our patients, their families and our mission. https://charity.gofundme.com//sustain-our-seniors-during-c
