This email is being sent to you to let you know about a scholarship opportunity currently available from CAAP (Center for Arab American Philanthropy/a program of ACCESS). It is open to Arab American college students anywhere in the United States studying engineering. The deadline to apply to this scholarship is August 3, 2018. SCHOLARSHIP DETAILS: It is anticipated that the Khalaf Family Scholarships will be $2,500 per student, and may be renewable for up to 4 years for students meeting satisfactory academic progress standards. The Fund will make all grant distributions directly to the student’s affiliated college or university. All colleges and universities must be accredited and be located within the United States.
On May 31, 2018, it was time to get together again for AAAEA-CA Mid-Year Dinner Gala at the Pico House, a historic landmark in the City of Los Angeles built by last Mexican Governor of Alta California between 1869-1870. This was another sold out successful event with 18 corporate sponsors. This was another testimonial to the success of the California Chapter of AAAEA. This event was hosted by two major public agencies in Los Angeles, LA Sanitation and LA County Public Work...s. The keynote Speaker was the Director of LA County, Department of Public Works, Mark Pestrella who laid his strategic vision for the largest public agency in the nation meeting the challenges of the 21st century, keeping the huge infrastructure well maintained, and addressing the issue of homelessness in our community. He emphasized the partnership between private and public sector in providing solutions to pressing issues in our various communities. This time around, new faces were present especially Arab American Engineers from Los Angeles County Public Works. Three scholarships we presented to well deserving Arab American Students bringing the total amount over the past 10 years to $80,650. Going with the tradition of AAAEA-CA events, the recipients of the Professional Achievement and Community Involvement Awards for 2018 were Mr. Phil Doudar, Assistant Deputy Director, LA County Department of Public Works and Ms. Dina Keirouz, Managing Director of PMA Consultants. The attendees enjoyed great conversation and a full authentic Middle Eastern Cuisine highlighted by performance by a nationally renowned comedian Ismael Loutfi.
On November 16, 2017, AAAEA-CA held its 9th Annual End Of Year Gala Dinner. With over 180 attendees and 23 sponsors, the event was very successful and a great and fun filled evening. We had an exceptional keynote speaker Mr Phil Washington, LA Metro CEO. Mr. Washington spoke from the heart about commitment to excellence and working hard to make a difference especially when it comes to our youth and students. Mr. Washington and LA Metro were recognized at the event with an aw...ard for their leadership and commitment to the industry and the community. We had high level representatives representing LA Mayor Eric Garcetti including Deputy Mayor Miguel Sangalang, Board of Public Works President Kevin James and Commissioner Luz Rivas. AAAEA-CA presented the Mayor with an appreciation and recognition award for his leadership, innovation and his commitment to diversity. The highlight of the evening was the award of the scholarships. Mr. Washington and Mr. Sangalang joined the Board with awarding eight scholarship totaling $9,000. This brought the total given since 2010 to 89 scholarship totaling $78,000. Special career and community involvement awards were also presented to Dilara Bahjat El-Assaad Rodriguez with LA Metro and Walid Azar of PMCS. Both awardees signify great professionalism, accomplishments and commitment to the industry and the community. In addition, outgoing Adel Hagekhalil was recognized for his two year of service as president of AAAEA-CA. In addition to the great middle eastern food, the attendees enjoyed great entertainment by Magician Mr. Michael Gutenplan who engaged the audience and wowed everyone with his performance. Saed Joudeh and his Dabkeh Group performed traditional dance that brought the attendees to join. AAAEA-CA new board was sworn in at the end of the ceremony with Ms. Ghina Yamout-Jomaa as the President, Adel Hagekhalil as Vice President, Dilara El-Assaad as Secretary and Haitham Aranki as Treasurer.
