Narika's call volume has tripled since March 2020, as the Covid-19 pandemic has caused domestic violence victims and children to stay at home with their abusers. Tune in to Tales of Resistance, a series of radio plays by The San Francisco Mime Troupe (Tony award-winning political satire theater troupe.) The San Francisco Mime Troupe creates original works of activist theater that expose injustice and demand revolution. In light of the upcoming election and the state of partisan politics, the Troupe is in the process of releasing a series of radio plays called Tales of the Resistance that focuses on the topics of democracy, resistance, and what it means to be a worker in today’s world. Hey everyone! The BlueCat Screenplay Competition, now in its 23rd year, is open for submissions for its 2021 competition. BlueCat remains committed to the undiscovered writer and continues its tradition of providing written analysis on every script submitted. DEADLINES and FEES: Late Deadline: December 13th, 2020. Feature $80, Pilot $75, Short $65. Final Resubmission Deadline: February 15th, 2021. Feature $50, Pilot $45, Short $35.... AWARDS: Every script submission will receive a complimentary written analysis. The Grand Prize Winner will receive $5,000. All scripts submitted (Features, Pilots and Shorts) are eligible. The show is co-presented by the Asian Pacific Islander Cultural Center (APICC) and is set to open May 2021. This multimedia arts exhibition is inspired by Asian Pacific Islander leaders fighting for environmental justice. They are seeking work that explores how we might sow... agency within our communities, reframe our kinship with the Earth, acknowledge and heal from climate grief, and regenerate awareness and resilience. TONIGHT at 7:30pm, join 3rd I South Asian Films for Levity and Artivism with Fawzia Mirza! It's FREE! 3rd i will showcase comic genius Fawzia Mirza, whose work adeptly uses humor to undo divisive stereotypes and defuse challenging conversations. A queer Pakistani-American actress, director and creator, she is an alumna of the Festival stage, previously screening shorts and also appearing in a live performance in 2015. In this year’s program, we highlight a range of her short...s, from the Bollywood-inspired Queen of My Dreams (2012) and the therapy-couch comedy The First Session (2015), to her documentary work around Pakistan The Streets Are Ours (2016). We end with her most recent work Saya (co-directed with Anam Abbas, 2018-19) an ode to Karachi and I Am Her (2019), a reflection on intimate relationships, which recently made the rounds of the Cannes Film Festival. Fawzia has been hailed a White House Champion of Change in Asian American Art & Storytelling, a Top 10 Creative (Indiewire), and 10 Filmmakers to Watch (Independent Magazine). In the post-screening Q&A, Mirza will discuss her work across theater, TV, and film, and her thoughts on feminist and queer politics in South Asia, specifically Pakistan.
