Zymo Research announced that three of its DNA/RNA Shield collection devices: 1) DNA/RNA Shield collection tube w/ swab, 2) DNA/RNA Shield Saliva/Sputum Collection Kit, and 3) DNA/RNA Shield Fecal Collection Tube are now CE IVD marked for in vitro diagnostic (IVD) applications. Zymo Research announced that it was granted the CE IVD Mark for its Quick SARS-CoV-2 rRT-PCR Kit. Unlike many other molecular COVID-19 tests, the Quick SARS-CoV-2 rRT-PCR Kit includes ready-to-use reaction mixtures, thus reducing hands-on time and eliminating human errors during the set-up process. California laboratories can now rapidly report COVID-19 test data to the California Reportable Disease Information Exchange (CalREDIE) using Zymo Research's new, free, open-source program. The Zymo Research Transmit Program (ZRTP) streamlines the configuration and uploading of data while eliminating errors and delays common to manual submission, incompatible systems, and outdated technology. The Innovative Genomics Institute at UC Berkeley quickly mobilized to create a pop-up coronavirus testing lab, using DNA/RNA Shield for sample collection and stabilization. They chose Shield because it "preserves the integrity of the sample nucleic acid during transport, but also inactivates pathogens at the time of specimen collection."
