Yuba Sutter Tang Soo Do Academy

Just a quick message to everyone. As most of you know, Grandmaster David Sgro is a missionary to Guatemala and the Philippines. He is trying to raise money for Covid relief for the indigenous people he works with. Many have lost their entire livelihoods due to their governments' restrictions. The time-frame for this fundraiser is on or before August 29th. In October Master Rhoades tested one of YSTSDA Students Nik for his Cho-Dan. He did a great job during his October's testing and just a week ago on December 7 (Monday Night) at Kyoshi Jurna's school - Nik was presented his Belt and Certificate - - Congratulations Nik on a Job Well Done! Also, he has been assisting Master Rhoades in preparing another classmate - Alex - for his Cho-Dan testing some time in the new year . . .

Well friends, California's mandated closures, together with parents' and students' general fear of Covid-19... has claimed another victim. Yuba Sutter Tang Soo Do will be closing it's doors for the last time on August 26th. YSTSD began in 1988 under Sa Bom Nim Steve Propst. It changed hands to (now) Sa Bom Nim James Rhoades in 2009. We've had a good run and, I believe, a positive impact on many lives for over 3 decades. We owe a debt of gratitude to all our current a...nd former instructors (Masters: SBN Mark Mathias, SBN MaryAnn Perez, SBN Miguel Jurna, SBN John Snee... Our Kyo Sa instructors: KSN Marsha Henderson, KSN Nanika Thiara, and KSN David Streng... as well as all our 2nd Dans who gave their time, energy, and knowledge to help our students develop skills and character. We are proud of all our students. We will be having one final "Thank you" get-together at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 26th. We hope that many of you will choose to come by to say "goodbye". Our Kobudo Class has been meeting at Kyoshi Miguel Jurna's school during our AC outage. Tonight (7/10) we had a great Night of Kobudo with Kyoshi Michael Harriman (8th Dan) from Sacramento Jinbukan. We worked on Sai Tai Jo-Bo kumite . . . ended the night with some Sai Densho (History) . . . and our Shodan Mr. Smith leading class thru Sai Geiki Sai Kata... Looking forward to next week as we continue our journey with the Okinawa (Matayoshi System) Kobudo.

Although we still are waiting on the landlord to make a decision on what to do with the air conditioning, we WILL be having class this week. Hope to see you there.

I'm sorry to say that we're going to have to cancel classes this week. I finally got someone to check out our air conditioning unit and it looks like it will most likely have to be replaced. This week, the temperature is supposed to be well over 100 degrees every day (with at least one day reaching 110). We are working with our landlord to get this resolved as soon as possible.
