Yreka Western Railroad throwback - Its 1948 in the YW yard in Yreka. In the photo is the YW No. 8 steam switcher. Built by Baldwin in 1916, builder# 43670, this was the workhorse of the railroad. With 51 drivers and 20x24 cylinders and an 0-6-0 wheel configuration, this versatile locomotive helped YW crews switch the industries and make up their trains to Montague. Receiving water from the water tower which still exists today. To the right behind the locomotive is the YW transfer crane, making the YW one of the earliest railroads in the area to offer rail to truck transloading - now a modern day railroad service. This crane also exists today. We will be posting other YW historical photos from time to time.

On this day 75 years ago. May 18 1945. Actor Humphrey Bogart and actress Lauren Bacall are shown at a train station before they board the Santa Fe in Los Angeles, Ca., on May 18, 1945. The couple will travel to Mansfield, Ohio, where they will get married at a friend's farm.
