On our way to Half Dome in Yosemite, we followed up the Merced River. Below is North Fork Falls that rafters portage. Upstream is the wild Quarter-Mile rapid with the old railroad trail visible alongside. Goldfields and California Poppies cover the canyon walls.

On the way to Yosemite we cross the ancient river of lava called Table Mountain. Looking east toward the High Sierra, the steep sides are popular for rock climbing. This time of year the volcanic meanders are a changing river of wildflowers turning from yellow to blue and back to orange. On the left is Melones Reservoir that filled the beautiful Stanislaus with water this time instead of lava.

Yosemite Flight Tours start at Columbia airport, and there is a secondary grass airstrip that is part of Table Mountain's lava.
