In West Sac, there a pond near the Sacrament Yacht Club on S. River Road. This has always had numerous Wood Ducks, yesterday 2/14/ 2021 I saw 5 pair. ~S. LaRocca

Yolo Audubon's October program featured Curt McCasland, manager of the Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge Complex speaking on what it takes to get the refuge(s) ready for the fall and winter birds that migrate in. Fox Sparrow. According to the "Checklist the Birds of Yolo County" (available from Yolo Audubon), the fox sparrow is absent in yolo county from beginning of May until the beginning of September. Mostly seen on the ground, look for them foraging in leaf litter during the fall and winter.

Woodbridge Road and Staten Island are again the place to see Sandhill Cranes. They spend their winter here and other sites in the central valley. Worth going many time during the months between October and late February. Two subspecies are viewable, Greater and Lesser. A group from birding group of 8 ladies from University Farm Circle were delighted to arrive with sunup to see them dancing and jumping.
