One meditation on Power. Paramhansa Yogananda listed Power as one of the eight aspects of God. Of all eight, for me, this one has always seemed the most distant. I can reason that it takes great power to create and dissolve stars and planets. But where is this power in man?... While meditating in a special place in the town of Assisi, I was thinking of Jesus. Not so much of the man and his life, but of the way we may have called on him in past lives. Moving between listening, and thought, a moment came to mind. Jesus in human form on the cross praying for those who were delivering and celebrating his torture. I don’t have any idea what God is, but to me this is the highest representation of divine power I can think of. Father forgive them, they know not what they do. Forgiveness. It wasn’t really an image, but more like an imaginary feeling of where my heart might be if I was on the cross and was only concerned for the others and the karmic suffering they would eventually have to endure. I tried to imagine in my own limited way, what it would be like to feel what Jesus felt at that moment. Until now I’ve always thought of this moment as an act of Love, but what is Love without Power? What could be more powerful than this one act, in any human? I can think of tiny things in my own self or life that have seemed impossible to forgive. We all know from our own experience that our level of awareness is directly related to our level of energy. If we wish to be fully aware and to perceive the more subtle realities within, we must eventually reclaim all our energies by letting go of past hurts, attachments, and desires. How much of our energy is committed to all the things we can’t accept, forgive or even forget? More than ever before I seek to recognize blessings where I can, and trust they are present where I can’t. Now, Power and Love do seem like aspects of one greater reality for me. And maybe forgiveness is a bit further from center, but still, it feels like a good entry point (as is acceptance), toward greater awareness, understanding, and a better life.

Why judge others? Why waste our energy that way? Why do the same to ourselves? What good comes from holding a negative image of anyone?

I found this talk to be quite inspiring. Rep. John Lewis is a man of great faith and clarity of purpose. A true American hero.

Don’t feel badly if you find yourself too restless to meditate deeply. Calmness will come in time, if you practice regularly. Just never accept the thought that meditation is not for you. Remember, calmness is your eternal, true nature. - Paramhansa Yogananda
