Yoga is my Boyfriend 20.12.2020

New schedule incoming

Yoga is my Boyfriend 13.12.2020

I’ve been thinking a lot about the difference between consciousness and identity, and how spirituality informs both. I think we often conflate identity and consciousness. Specifically, I’ve been thinking that identity is largely a relational practice. Likewise, spirituality is a way of relating. So, where I am landing is that identity construction is by virtue, largely a spiritual project. Interested to know about your thoughts and experiences. What do these words mean to you?

Amazing discussion about the challenges and opportunities of being a Queer Yoga teacher.

It's been a while, hasn't it? If you're in the Los Angeles area tomorrow, I'll be teaching a rare public class in Santa Monica at Power Yoga on 2nd Street at 4:30pm. Much love and many blessings.

Before beginning a practice, I feel like it's important to establish where I am in relation to the emotional body. As I began my practice today, I noticed that my heart felt heavy. My breath was short. My balance felt asunder. "I'm sad," I realized. What I experienced was that by making space and acknowledging my feelings today, by making tea and inviting my feelings into the practice, I became more present. My breath deepened. My mind got more and more quiet. By bringing honest awareness to my feelings, that awaressness then informed how I found myself moving, and the way I treated myself as I moved through my practice. Yoga can make us feel amazing, but its important that we acknowledge ourselves from a place of truth, or Satya, and make space to be human in our practice.

Namaste friends! I'm hoping Spring has been a rich and rewarding period of renewal and growth for all of you! I have been enjoying a much needed Sabbatical. It is rare to have the opportunity to step back and deeply reflect on what it is we are truly here to do with the short time we have here in this life. I am incredibly grateful I've had the last few months to experience stillness, to observe, and to integrate the experiences of the last several years.... During this time, my creative partner and I have dived deeply into production of a new Kirtan inspired album. While there remains more to be discovered, I am so excited to share a track from Bala and the Bear 's debut album. We are busy at work and hope to complete the album this summer. It is a blend of our love of Spirit, music, and mantra. We hope you enjoy it and please share it if you feel so inspired! Much love, Noah (Bear)

So sorry for the relative radio silence here A few announcements. 1st: 6:30pm Friday at Bhakti Yoga Shala will be cancelled for an amazing night of Kirtan celebrating C.C. White A Musical Journey 's birthday! It starts at 8:00pm Don't miss out! 2nd. One of the key benefits of developing a yoga practice is learning to cultivate qualities of stillness, awareness, and gratitude amidst the changes that are part of our short journey here in this human life. This year has bee...n a year of deep and powerful change and movement in my life. As I move with these changes, I have made the difficult decision to release the Friday night slot. While this was not an easy decision to make, it was definitely the right one to make at this time. Teaching yoga has been and will continue to be the greatest gift I have received in my life. As I shift my attention to welcoming these new changes, I am filled with overwhelming gratitude for each and every one of you I've been so blessed to share space, breath, sweat, laughter, and tears with. You have enriched my life in ways I can't possibly begin to verbalize, and I am deeply appreciative for all you have taught me over the last few years at the Shala. I'd like to invite you to join me for one last deep dive into the great mystery on February 26th at 6:30pm. 3rd. Bhav Street Kirtan is very busy at work on a new project. To be perfectly honest, Balaram and I are not exactly sure what it is, but it's a step in a new direction for both of us, and we are excited to share new music with you soon! As for everything else... Breathe into it. Embrace it. Let it go. That's what I know, just for today. Namaste - Noah

Yoga means union. Today, something historic happened in our country, and our union as a people has become a little more perfect, to paraphrase our president. I cannot express what this means to me, my family, my friends, my co-workers. Love steps forward today, re-affirmed and more complete. Namaste!
